A very short chapter

For which special apologies. Normally I'd post 2 or 3 chapters of this length at one time. However I did some major surgery on the following 2-3 chapters and rather than wait to get them finished I decided to post this short chapter on its own.

Yes, the story is still active, but a combination of natural slowness and press of other business has meant I have been posting very infrequently. I hope to do better in the future, but frankly the chapters are always going to be slow in coming.

Garter snakes

A perceptive reader has pointed out there are no garter snakes in England, so the snake Eddy found in the stump where he hid the gold is obviously not a garter snake.

But Eddy didn't know that and neither did I. Since both of us are Americans, we both naturally assumed the small snake living in the stump was a garter snake.

Wrong, but that's one of the good thing about having perceptive readers.

Another Chapter

Another chapter of "The Case of the Duplicate Duke" is up. It's a little short because for the next few chapters the length is going to be driven by the structure of the story, not an arbitrary word goal.

Back in Harness

Okay,my tech finally got time to transfer the files off the hard disk on my dead computer and onto my new system.

So I'm back at work on the Duplicate Duke and I should post another chapter -- albeit somewhat short -- in the coming week.

Meanwhile, a happy Chinese New Year to you all

Computer Problems

One of the things that's holding up further postings of The Case of The Duplicate Duke is that old debbil computer problems.

I've had not one but two computers die on me in short order and found out my backups were unusuable. Fortunately the problems weren't with the hard disks, so I (or rather my tech) can recover the data, but it's going to take time. This has also put me behind with my regular work and that has to be a priority for economic reasons.

Worst case I'll have to reconstruct the 20,000 or so in fragments of the rest of the novel (not to mention the 5,000 words or so of the sequel).

We'll see.
