Chapter 13
Diane went back to her castle in Bavaria. It was a beautiful time of year, and her arrival was treated as though she owned the place. She did. Those staff that Claus had, that who could not show her respect at least, were replaced by those who could. It had been months that she had been away. No matter, the staff would have to be prepared to receive Diane anytime of any day. Her arrival this time was unique. She was crying.
Things were not going much better for Paul. He had his pride. He wanted to look in the mirror and be able to face himself. That and the clothes on his back were the sum total of his posessions, when at he left Germany. He flew to New York then took another flight to his destination. It was not to Atlanta, or even Detroit, he was going to Dallas. He wanted to make certain that his girls would be taken care of. He was not planning to return.
He assured Whitestone that nothing had really changed regarding SMART II. Diane’s duties had now expanded, and her brother who had formerly headed Mercedes-America was now his partner in P B & J and was as much a car person as he was.
For personal reasons, Paul was needed elsewhere.
Although Dallas seemed to understand, they called Atlanta, Atlanta told them the entire tribe had gone to Berlin, and they would make a call there. Atlanta did call Berlin but no one in Paul’s harem knew anything about anything. Diane had not returned, and neither had Paul.
Miss ‘happy go lucky, ‘ until now, started to show herself a formidable little thing! Well, not exactly little, but you know what I mean.
She made an executive decision, Paul and Diane (Jack and Diane really) unlike the song, had gone to the MB HQ there, so that’s where she went, too. At the sign in desk, standing between the two guards she had to plead with to even get this far. They towered over her, but she demanded to speak with Dieter or Reinhart. The young lady laughingly asked, and ‘Whom should I say is calling, Princess?”
“Tell them, Kristi, Kristi Daimler from Monaco.”
Red has many shades and Monica began changing to most of them. If she was telling the truth and she was family, Monica was history and if she turned her away now, as she had intended. It would get worse.
When she called regarding a Kristi, there was no need to say her last name. Dieter was on the phone saying he would be right down. When the doors of the lift opened she ran to him and he to her. “Where is Paul and Diane” rang out from both of them.
Dieter’s message left no option for misinterpretations. Order my car. Get me security, not these fools here and call my father tell him that Kristi and I are coming up.”
‘Shit’ she thought. ‘I am going to be in so much trouble.’ When Kristi started to tell her story and how difficult it had been to get to see them, Dieter nodded. He made a call and Monica was not fired. Her new duties were in the dining room, ... cleaning it!.
Several dozen people were calling anywhere and everywhere. Lufthansa confirmed a passenger by that name had left Germany on his way to New York and a connection. It was an American Airlines flight 98 to Dallas. Nothing on Diane being on that flight or any other, at least booked to leave Germany. Both Dieter and Reinhart had an idea where she had gone. They did the man thing, they sent Erica. Hell, there was a copter to take her to Bavaria in twenty 20 minutes.
