Chapter 5

Her husband Stephen, had begun his search by looking through all of the Count's papers. Most of his correspondence was to his family. Some was to various women he had fathered children with who wanted money for their children. Nothing political was ever alluded to except the letter from his father that had told him that he would not have to serve in the armed forces of his nation. He had bought Joe an exemption.

He had finished his search surprisingly fast and was stumped for a short time on where to search next. Then he decide that maybe the trusted servant, Raphael should be next. That search took him longer. Where the Count had everything open for view Raphael didn't. His papers were under lock and key.

It was soon apparent that Raphael was a very secretive person. He had few letters. It was his hidden cache that revealed him as an spy for IL Duce. It was underneath that letter that he found the blueprints for the submarine base. He quickly found the camera that they had brought with them. He snapped several shots of all of the documents. Then he tried to tuck everything away as he had found it.
