Chapter 1

Excerpt from the Journal of the Grand Master:

The child survived
out of the depths
of the dark night.
I have taught her much
guiding her,
to the path of light.
As time grows,
so does she
I am too fond of her now.
Maybe one day
I will confess to her,
to do so I will break my vow.
Is my age too great
for her to allow?

Diary entry of Lana Laue following the death of her teacher:

When the desert sands
silence their whispers
in the night,
the infinite lights
of the sky
bleed into darkness,
my undying love
will show me the light,
for I will follow you
to the realm of shadows
and there I will wait
