Chapter 8: Coaching Continues

Our next order of business with the squad was starting a schedule of practice sessions. We got to use the gym at school after hours so everything was in place. I decided to run the squad democratically where the girls all got to vote on what routines we would use. Fortunately some of the lady teachers who had been cheerleaders were able to come by and help out. These girls put their all into every routine. I did have to caution them to cool their jets a bit when the routines got a little carried away in a provocative sense.

We held practice sessions every chance we got and built up quite a lot of interest from the boys in the school. I mean what red blooded male isn't fascinated by cheerleaders bouncing around in their skimpy uniforms. I know I sure was impressed. It turned out that I noticed that several of the girls had developed a bit of a crush on me and every time they looked at me they seemed to have a dreamy look in their eyes. Or was it just hopeful thinking on my part? We'll have to see but I would never take any of them up on their infatuations.

Our first actual performance was to be at an away game at one of the other schools in the conference. The ball players were loaded up in one of the buses with all their equipment. The second bus was loaded with the band and their instruments. That left the third bus for my girls and some of their parents. Also a couple of the teachers who had helped at practice sessions showed up so we almost filled the bus. Great turn-out for the first game of the season. The two teachers ushered the girls to the locker room for some uniform adjustments and primping. I showed the dads and moms to the section of the stands reserved for them. I of course took to the field ready for our girls to make their entrance.

The public address announcer came over the speakers and introduced the ball players. First was the home team who took up positions along the 50 yard line. Next was our team who also lined up. Then the home team cheerleaders took their positions at 45 yards facing their team. Then it was our squad to take positions facing our team. Then the ROTC color guard marched the flags right up the center and turned about face. Then out came the singer to lead everyone in the national anthem. She had a really nice voice and the song came out flawlessly. I still think Kim has a sweeter voice but that's just me.

There was a mad scramble while everyone took their positions along the sidelines. My girls started some of their sideline cheers to get the crown worked up. The teams took the field and played a respectable game which was tied even at half time. Now came half time where my girls got to strut their stuff. They did some fairly ordinary routines but ended up with a pyramid.
