Chapter 18
I promised to tell about the troubles we had with the giant sword.
In the beginning the trip was just slow, due to having to drag the sword along, but then we came to ford that had some slippery stones on the bottom and some pretty rapid water.
Everyone just looks at it and imagines the many way that crossing it with the sword might go badly, I try to cheer them up by pointing out that if the sword is dropped, it is not going to float away, so we just have to try until we get it over. As a response Anneli does a rude gesture to me and tells me that if it is that easy then I can carry it over.
After some spirited discussion including all kinds of insults and references inadequate dick sizes and such, Nadia manages to calm us down.
Then we make a plan to tie couple of ropes to the sword and have most of us just pulling directly on the main rope, but having someone able to try to hold the other end for safety with the other rope. I think that the plan is a bit too complicated as the sword is definitely not going to float away, but I stay quiet in order to not restart the earlier discussion.
So Garis assigns us to the roles with Nadia holding the other rope and the rest of us on the main rope. Luckily the stream is not too wide so we have long enough ropes. I manage to fall on the slippery stones on the way to other side even before actual pulling, but as I am holding the rope I do not have much trouble getting up as the others stop and hold it in place.
After that little misadventure, we get to the other side and start pulling. It turns out that the extra rope was useful after all as the sword got stuck in some rocks and Nadia got it unstuck by pulling sideways.
After a bit of rest we continued forwards, but only about an hour later, there was suddenly a yell from the side in a goblinoid voice and about two dozen goblins start running towards up with one hobgoblin behind them yelling.
The ones carrying the sword dropped it and started to grab weapons and such. To give them time to react, I created a strong gust of wind that disorganized the goblin attack and stepped back to be behind the others.
Garis then counter charged the center of the goblin group and smashed into one and send it flying and then started curring down others around him. Ertak had of course disappeared from view as expected and Anneli charged ahead to help Garis while Nadia started dropping goblins fom the sides.
In the battle I caused all kinds of chaos among the goblins, I cannot recall exactly what all I did, but according to Nadia at some point I at least used magic to pick up a goblin and then used that goblin a bowling ball on other goblins.
It seems that my ability to pick up objects is able to be used on much larger objects than what I knew off. I mean as kid I had often thrown a ball with magic, but definitely not anything as big as those goblins, even though one of them likely only weighted thirty to forty pounds, it is still much heavier.
Ertak snuck up to the Hobgoblin in the back and struck him down in surprise and then joined the others in disposing of the other goblins.
At some point the world started to get dark on me as the deep exhaustion of too much magic use hit me, so I staggered a bit and had to sit down, luckily by that time the goblins were defeated with the last few trying to run away, but more than half of those running away were hit by Nadia while they were running.
