The pet store’s supply of dragons was limited. One.
“I guess he’s kind of cute,” Jamie remarked to the pet store owner. “Oh, is it a he? I don’t see a, um...”
“Name’s Ralph,” the owner said.
“But I don’t see a, um...”
“Never developed,” the owner said.
Jamie nodded. “But shouldn’t he have wings? Don’t dragons...?”
“Ralph’s never developed.”
“So he can’t fly.”
The pet store owner nodded. “But he can run like the dickens.”
“Does he breathe fire?”
“He don’t even smoke,” the owner said, then cleared his throat.
Ralph looked at Jamie with puppy dog eyes.
“And what does he eat?”
“He likes grilled cheese sandwiches,” the owner said. “With a pickle on the side. Sweet or dill. And strawberry milkshakes.”
Ralph smiled.
“I’ll take him,” Jamie said.
