Chapter 6

Melissa and I had various theories about how my powers developed or how they work as they do. Thanks to my friends and family's love, influence and their support from a very young age, my mind seemed to have melded the two abilities together, Precognition and Telekinesis, in such a way, that I could predict and help people in need. During my last year of school, my gift was only an instinctive guide and was only able to help me directly and other people who were very, very close to me in times of their danger. Melissa assumed that one day I would have more control over my Precognitive power, and should be able to see the lottery results before it was drawn and win the jackpot. I told her that it was morally wrong to do such a thing; my powers were obviously designed to help people. Nevertheless, as you will read later in the story, Melissa was right again.

Now for a very happy moment. Melissa and I were both on spring break together, and one evening, we were just hanging out together at the mall before it closed. We were just chatting, when suddenly I got one of my feelings. However, for the first time it was not something wrong, but very right, a happy feeling. Now this particular feeling would happen only twice. Once for Melissa and once for me. The event I am about to describe, will give you a hint about what this feeling would eventually do for me.

Melissa and I were sat on a bench, sipping down some milkshakes, Melissa telling me how she finally convinced her dad to allow her to change University. She had to promise to give her first child, the same name as her grandfather, sucker. In addition, we would get ourselves a house to rent for our three years at university, for just the two of us. Unexpectedly though, I suddenly stood and looked around; it had been a while since my last instinct kicked in. The last time concerning a young boy, who was going to fall off a climbing frame at the park. He was hanging upside down, showing off, but he dropped head first towards the ground. I managed to stop him an inch from the ground, luckily without being noticed. Now though Melissa watched me stand up and saw that confused look upon my face, signaling that something was about to happen.

"What is it Sophie?" she asked. I looked at her, and then smiled. Whatever it was, it was about Melissa and it would be good. "Why are you smiling like that?"

"Something good is going to happen. Good for you Melissa, I am sure, unfortunately I have no idea what, as I have never had this feeling before." I scanned around the area, trying to pick up what it was about. Finally, I just closed my eyes and relaxed, getting an image. It showed a boy stood watching us, or rather Melissa. I opened my eyes and found him. He was in a quiet corner alone, about 20 yards away, talking to himself. He seemed to be psyching himself up for something. He seemed to be getting ready to move, and then he would stand up, but ultimately he would fail and just sit down again. Melissa followed my eye line and together we watched him for a minute or two. He eventually looked up and spotted us watching him, however he looked behind him, assuming we were not looking at him. Realizing it was him, he seemed to get nervous and just stared at the ground, and I believe we had scared him off from whatever he was planning.

"Look at him, what a dork." Then she turned to look at me, with a question. "Sophie?"

"Yes Mel?" I was still smiling; I finally understood what was going on.

"Why are you looking at him, and what has this got to do with me?" she asked worryingly. I think she was also beginning to get a clue, as to what was going on. I just smirked at her, I was so happy for her. "You have got to be kidding, not him, he looks like such a geek." I felt he was a bit too, but if anybody could be good for him, it would be Melissa. "Since when has your instinct ever found me a good date?" she asked, still shaking her head.

"I don't think this is just about a date, I think he is your future." Then the boy stood and began to walk off. "And your future is about to leave. I would go after him if I were you." She looked at me and I nodded, trying to reassure her, I was right. She huffed a little, and then ran off to find him. 10 minutes later, she eventually returned, dragging along a now very happy boy.
