Chapter 14: Escape Pod

I awoke strapped to a gurney of some kind, my whole body hurt, I tried to move my head but I couldn't, I could see that I was in a small ship of some kind, there was a port right above my head that I could see stars, there was debris everywhere, I tried to talk but couldn't, I made a groaning noise.

"your awake?" Corals voice said.

I Felt her grab my hand.

"Mmmh mmmhh shhd?" I tried to speak.

"Don't speak, your jaw is broken, you also have a fracture in your skull." She said, I could hear her voice shake.

"mmm mm?" I tried to speak.

"What happened? I ... I hit you hard, I forget how fragile you are, the other prisoners jumped us, the governor and her people subdued them, they are all here, most are still unconscious, we had just knocked the last one out when the ship took a major impact." She said.

The shuttle we were in shook as it hit some debris.

"The ship was lost, most of the fleet is destroyed, the aliens are still coming through the wormhole, we are hiding among the debris, unfortunately the aliens are homing in on the human life signs, fortunately there is enough debris in space that we have been able to avoid them so far." she said.

The lights in the shuttle dimmed.

"We are locked onto a reactor from one of the human ships, the distortion from the reactor should hide us." Janus voice said over the intercom.

"Anthony, we needed to do something, the fleet is still 12 hours away, you are not going to like it, but if we didnt do it they would of found us already." She said.

"Mmmm mmsh?" I said.

"We had to inject you with some of our microbes, they are a type of virulent retro virus, once they spread through your system they should mask you enough that we can move to escape." She said.

"WMMMSH!?" I said panicked.

"Don't worry it wont hurt, it shouldn't do to much to you, but we have the Governor on board, and we need to get her to safety." She said.

"I still think we should of jettisoned them overboard." A male voice said.

"Jacob, stop it." Jan said.

I couldn't see them but I could hear them enough.

"If it wasn't for him we wouldn't be in this situation." Jacob said.

"He warned us Jacob, we wouldn't of had the fleet on alert if he hadn't." Jan said.

"Enough, his fate will be discussed later, we need to figure out our plans to stop them" I heard the Governor say.

"Don't worry Anthony, everything will be okay." Coral whispered into my ear.

I couldn't hear anything else after that, my body was racked with convulsions, I felt horrific pain through out my body, I felt as though someone was trying to rip out my guts, I barely felt the prick of the needle that put me to sleep.

I had nightmares, I was getting chased by a giant spider, everywhere I went it found me, I couldn't outrun it. Nothing I did could stop it, I had my sidearm out as it chased me through endless corridors of what looked like an alien ship. I would hide and it would eventually find me.

As the dream went on my body changed in the dream, I found my arm had become like one of the spiders legs, I looked down at my feet and saw them changing too. Just as suddenly as it had begun the change stopped, I felt my shin crawling, it felt like thousands of tiny insects were in my veins, some how I knew it was fighting the change in me.

In my dream I lay in the halls of the ship, the spider that was chasing me walked past me with out even seeing me, even though I lay on the floor in plain sight, in the dream I could sense its confusion, it didn't know what to make of the situation. I felt a menace coming from the creature as it searched for me, I could hear its thoughts, it was determined to hunt down and exterminate the human, but it was becoming increasingly alarmed at the enemy it had encountered.
