The program wiped all accessible permanent storage completely blank, and, in doing so, wrote into every available storage slot a little slogan, "You have been fucked!" Once this was done, Booby Trap erased itself so there would be nothing there for the victim to reverse engineer. Booby Trap kept a local record of how many times it had been attacked and the address of the attacking computer. This gave NA's Internal Security branch a place to start looking for the crooks.
