Preface

Have you ever woken up and realized your life was shit. It's a clarifying moment, let me tell you, it took a lot of steps to get here, but this is where I had found myself. I had spent years living from pay check to pay check relationship to relationship, to find my life was shit. Yes, I know I stated this, but it bears repeating. The job that I hated was gone, laid off like so many others, the girlfriend gone, for I had no money and no future. The family absentee for years and not likely to change, nor did I really want that to change. There were two options as I saw it, eat the barrel of my Colt .45, or find a new me a new reality, and this is my story. If you wish to know about these things, read on.

I am a pretty normal guy, I guess, the one thing that hasn't changed since I left the Corps, is I've managed to stay in decent shape out of habit more than any desire to work out. I'm a city boy, got 3.5 tattoos, and the normal wear and tear, like I said, normal. The last thing Veronica did before she left me was to drop my eviction notice on my lap and laugh at me. I should have known better than to date a stripper. I ate my last bowl of cereal, grabbed my bike keys, Colt, and hit the door, it was time to die.

Not die in the way you're thinking, but then again if it was that way you wouldn't be reading this, I guess. I had decided to kill this me, never to contact anyone I knew, leave town, and start over. I just never imagined just how right I was.

I meet death on a Thursday. I had spent the last month driving south, exhausting my money to almost nothing, and decided it would be a good idea to get rip roaring drunk. I was sitting outside sipping my Jack & Coke well on my way to a good buzz, when I saw her pull up on a pale Harley. She was definitely my type, petit with a body to kill for, her jet black hair framed her ghostly skin and dazzling sapphire eyes. Chaps so tight I swear they were her skin, and a t-shirt that was barely legal, and to my utter astonishment she pulled up the chair across from me.

"Mind if I sit here?" her voice was velvet smooth.

"Ma'am you can have anything you like." I couldn't believe my luck.

About that time my chest started to ache and my left arm went numb. I knew what was happening, since a heart attack had claimed almost every male in my family, I was well aware of the signs. I dropped my drink, and the damndest thing occurred when it stopped half way to the floor. Not only that, everything had stopped, the sudden quiet was deafening.

"My name is Thanatos, death if you prefer."

"You were supposed to kill yourself a few weeks back, but for some reason you did not, and as I have a busy schedule, it took a while for me to get around to you. I don't like it when things don't go right, but your odd approach to end this life has intrigued me. I can do nothing to stop the correct flow as such, this body must die, but if you will take it I can offer you another chance at life. I am curious to see what you would do with it."

To say that I was dumbfounded would be an understatement. She told me that I would start over in a body that was in a coma, and would have lived uselessly for years. That I could never reveal what happened under any circumstance, or she would come for me personally again, and would insure that I did not enjoy my end. Also I would have my memories from this life to use to whatever means I wished.

What could I say, what would you say. After I told her yes things went black.
