I heard the loud honking outside.
I grabbed my purse, told Peter I would see him at the party, and headed out. Mom and Dad were at the club having a long romantic dinner, and Adrienne was at a party, then would be spending the night with her friend later.
I hurried down the walk, as well as I could in three inch heals.
Kyle hooted, and I paused to do a sultry look. I ended up cracking up, and headed to the passenger side of the convertible.
He kissed me, and then off we headed.
We went to Char's house first. She and Parker were waiting outside on her front porch. She saw us and hurried to yell bye to her parents. Parker was already on his way down the path, he was practically running.
He jumped in, and she came racing down the path, her shoes in hand.
"What's wrong?" I asked, giving them both a funny look.
"Parents are fighting again. They almost didn't let me go. I had to get out before they could change their minds. They had no choice but to let me go when Parker showed up at the door," Charlotte informed us, out of breath. "Now hit the gas."
Kyle pulled back out onto the road, and headed for Brit's house.
I felt bad for them. Kyle just sat there looking straight ahead at the road. I guess he had to focus, but he didn't have to focus that much.
Right?
I finally managed to get a good look at what everyone was wearing. Kyle was wearing khakis and a simple tight tee that showed off his muscles really well. All the guys were wearing pretty much the same thing. It was kind of weird. Brittany was wearing an adorable hot pink skirt, and a simple white tank top. Her skirt was one of those old fashion ones that swirl out really far, but it was ten times shorter than those old fashion ones. Charlotte had on some of her usual black and white ordeal: black purse and belt, and white jeans. They look like they are cutting off her circulation, no matter how comfortable she says they are, and she wore a cute light blue top. It was one shoulder.
We all put a hand in the middle, and this time Charlotte said the old fun starter.
"Here's to best friends, and the time of our lives."
Our hands went up, we grabbed our guys, and in we went.
The party was being held at Joey's this time. Surprisingly, he was pretty sober looking when he came to the door, but I remember that when I saw him hours later, he could hardly stand up straight.
"The Sophomores are here!" he yelled.
There were some whoops and cheers, and we headed upstairs to put our stuff in a random room like we always did for these parties.
We were heading back downstairs, but Kyle grabbed my arm, and pulled me to him.
"You ready to party?" he asked.
I laughed, "You bet."
He nibbled my neck, and we headed downstairs.
We headed in, just like we had on that first party.
I realized that I knew just what to do. I hugged some people, Kyle introduced me to some people, and then we were in.
Stephanie grabbed my arm as we were almost into the dance floor.
"Hey," she said.
"Hey. Oh, congrats on how things turned out last night. I would have to say that you guys were the greatest captains."
"Aw, thanks so much. Well, you were by far the best flyer, we'll have to see what else we can get you into next practice."
"Okay! Sounds good."
"See you around," she yelled to one of her friends, gave me a drunk smile, and headed off.
"She is so going to end up dead at the end of the night," I told Kyle as we headed onto the floor, and started dancing.
He looked over at her, her loud rambling, her staggering, the way she happened to slosh her drink all over everyone. There was the sign of a girl who was popular only because she had been all her life. She was far from actually being popular. A few really liked her, but most didn't exactly like or dislike her.
"If some people knew how she acted at parties, in fact how all the popular kids acted at parties, we would all be out of here," he said.
