So I really was everything to him.
And apparently nothing to Nick. I haven't heard from him since that night.
I ran into him once at pep rally. He was there watching his present girlfriend cheer. I was there as captain of the squad. She was a sophomore, one of our best flyers. She was daring, willing to do anything. Including put up with him. I was there to also cheer on my boyfriend ... darling Luke Jackson.
After the pep rally, they were both outside the locker room. Waiting for us.
She had transferred from Hunter.
Her name was Natalie.
We walked out together, and met our boyfriends. I didn't know her well, at all. I was shocked to see him there.
"Hi," he said to me, slipping an arm around her.
"Hey," I smiled, letting him know I was happy without him. "Um ... Luke, you remember Nick."
"Yeah, how are you?" they shook hands.
"Lauren, you remember Natalie," Nick said, introducing the girl at his arm. His words had an undertone.
"Yes I remember her, and know her. She's on my squad," I turned to her and smiled. "Great job tonight."
"Aww, thanks! You too!" she was sweet, happy, and beautiful to boot.
"Well, we have to go," Luke spoke up quickly.
"Yeah, we do. Good to see you," I said quickly, and we left.
"Isn't that..." Natalie asked, as they watched Luke and Lauren leave.
"Luke's girlfriend? Yes."
"No, the girl you hooked up with while I was hooking up with Luke."
"You were not hooking up with Luke, and I was not hooking up with her. She and Luke took a break because you fucked up what they had. I was completely rebound."
Right then and there, outside the girls' locker room of Beverly Hills High School, Nick realized he really had cared about her.
And now she was gone ... out of his reach...
Both of them had made the mistake, but he had made up for it first...
Could Luke keep his word, and never hurt her again? They all knew he would...
