Mr. Galloway stepped up to the microphone and motioned me forward. I moved to his right and one step behind.
"This year," began Mr. Galloway, "I'm very pleased to present the trophy for outstanding male high school golfer to Andrew Ellison." The crowd cheered wildly. "He not only broke all the state records, but he has demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship. You're a credit to your school." The crowd cheered more sedately.
I nodded to the superintendent.
"Come on up," he said waving me forward and stepped out of the way. The crowd cheered wildly.
I stood in front of the microphone while the trophy was handed to me. I basked in the accolades before saying my thanks. This was my moment and I was only a high school freshman.
