Chapter 2

Aislin

After I changed back into my true form we spent several hours just talking together, and Kellan told me about his parents being dead for four years now. He also told me their names of Tristessa and Calais which got me interested for the names sounded really familiar though I couldn't think of where I had heard them before just then. I told him how while he was asleep I had gone to Eamon a friend of mine and brought him back and that he was the one who had healed most of his injuries, and that he had gone off to consult some others he knew about him. I also said that I wasn't sure who it was that Eamon had gone to see for sure, but not to worry as Eamon was worthy of trust and wouldn't tell anyone that would come here to try and cause him harm. After a few hours we decided it would be best to go to sleep and see what tomorrow would bring. After some discussion about sleeping arrangements we decided that Kellan would sleep in my nest with me. I didn't mind sharing my bed with him as I had cared for him from the first time I saw him. The feelings I felt for him where at first maternal, but as I got to know him more those feelings began to change in to love. I reasoned with my self if sleeping with me in my nest helped him feel more comfortable in an unfamiliar environment then that's just what would happen. We went into my sleeping alcove together, and after I climbed into my nest he climbed up next to me and nuzzled him self up close to me and I draped my wing down over him protectively and fell asleep. Early the next morning I woke when I felt Kellan wrap his arms around my neck, and felt him sigh. It was then that I realized that he was still asleep. I smiled and looked down at him as I did so I felt my self becoming aroused and realized that I wanted to take him as a mate. I didn't want to force him into something he did not want though especially with what he had to put up with over the past four years. I also realized that I did not care that he was a little young to seriously be considering a mate it had happened in the past where some had taken mates even younger than he was it was accepted that it did happen occasionally though generally discouraged especially since in mating the partners also bonded so strongly that often when one died the other would go mad and suicide with grief from the loss. I resolved with my self that we would discuss it when he woke. I gently took his arms from around my neck and left my nest to find some food and assess what matters where like in my storage cave, and also to look into some scrolls of some recently past events to see if I could find his parents names mentioned as I could not shake the feeling that I knew of them. Before I got too far into looking for his parents names in my records I heard Kellan cry out in fear. I rushed back into my sleeping alcove to find him sitting up in my nest when he saw me enter he relaxed though.

"I am sorry Kellan I did not mean to frighten you leaving you alone in here its just I had some things to take care of and you where sleeping so well I did not want to disturb you. Why don't you come with me to my study I have something I wish to discuss with you."

As I left him to go to my study I think of how aroused he has made me and realize I will have to keep a tight control on my self or else in the process of talking with him about if he would be interested and willing to become my mate or else I may force my self on him and I cared to much for him to do that. It was then that Kellan joined me in my study and I indicated that he should sit down in a chair on the other side of the room.

I let him sit down and get situated before I started. "I know this may seem strange and kind of fast for you but in the short time I have known you I have come to realize that I not only like you, but I am strongly attracted to you. I wish to ask you to consider becoming my mate after I tell you all that is involved, but I just wanted to get that out in the open before I started so you can be thinking about what it will mean for both you and for me should you accept."

Kellan couldn't have looked more surprised even if I had thrown him on the floor and started pulling his clothes off. I gave him a minute to get used to the idea before I continued my explanation that if we where to mate it would not simply be a physical joining but a spiritual one, and that this bonding varied in strength from pair to pair with some being only able to know when their mate was unhappy or hurt to they knowing each others every thought and wish. I also told him that for this reason We would be mated for life. I looked at him after I finished and saw he was deep in thought but I could tell by the small tent in his pants that he wasn't completely opposed to the idea.

I spoke up then, "I need to hunt now I will leave you for now to think this over you are free to go any where in the cave you wish but just please stay away from the entrance it is a long way to the ground and with out me here to catch you would surely be severely hurt or maybe even killed in the fall."

I then got up and left him to think over what I said and decided that with the two of us in my cave I should probably get at least 2 deer, and I took off to hunt.

Kellan

As I listened to Aislin talk to me about what it meant to mate with a dragon I was amazed that I found the idea strangely attractive. Ever since the first time I saw her I knew there was something special about her I just never knew that it might have been an attraction to her on my part. At first as I thought about it I thought that I might just feel this way for her because she had taken me in and promised to protect me, but then I realized that I was more than just attracted to her and the unfamiliar emotion I felt running around inside of me could only be love. I thought hard about it and I did not know what would happen if we mated since we where different species would we be able to produce children at all or if we could would they be some kind of monsters. All these thoughts kept running threw my head it seemed like for every reason I though of to accept her as a mate I thought of at least one to say no to her offer. I spent hours arguing with my self over the matter when I finally realized that I loved her and I didn't give a damn what anyone else dragon or human would think of it. Having never been with a girl I worried that I wouldn't know what to do when the time came, but then I remembered that Aislin said that dragons mated for life and I relaxed at the thought that it would be her first time too and she would likely be as nervous as I am. I wandered around her cave for a few hours making sure to be careful when I went near the entrance though I found I loved the view of the forest below especially with the suns sinking behind the clouds. I had never really sat and watched them set before but I remembered one of the first days I was outside at high noon I became panicked when I looked down and my shadow was gone. My mother just laughed when I told her that my shadow had gone and left me she sat me down on the steps of our house and explained that with where the suns where at noon there where no shadows any where because the light was coming from both the east and the west, and that I should wait an hour or two and go back out and I would see that my shadow was back. I had been amazed then that she was right about my shadow coming back. I looked of to the east and I saw Aislin returning with two large deer. When she landed I hurried over to her to help in any way I could with the deer but they proved to be too large for me to move and she had me go sit down at the table I had eaten at earlier and wait while she put the deer up. It did not take long for her to finish and she came back out to the main room.

"So you seem happy enough to have me back home. What have you decided, or do you have some questions to ask me before you make up your mind?" She asked me.

I looked down into my lap a minute then looked right at her "I argued with my self along time over this and I only had one concern that really does not affect my decision. That is should we mate will you ever conceive, and if you should what will out children be like will they be human, dragon, or some monstrous combination of the two. Regardless of this I finally came to a realization, and that is that I love you no matter what happens. So your answer is yes I will become your mate."

Aislin

I listened to Kellan as he told me his concern and realized I made a big over sight while I told Eamon of my suspicion that Kellan was real a dragon child, and he agreed with me that Kellan was at the very least not a normal human child I never told Kellan this. I took a deep breath and looked Kellan in the face, "I am sorry I got so worked up at the thought of taking you as a mate I completely forgot to tell you that when I first saw you I sensed power within you and also that you have a spell on you I can not tell for certain what kind of a spell it is but I think it is the same one I use on my self to change my form to that of a human. So I suspected at that time that you where in fact a dragon your self just your parents never told you for what ever reason... reasons I guess we will never know now. So be at ease yes we will conceive eventually, but what ever children we do have will be dragon not some monster. Seeing as how you don't know how to change into your true form I will join with you in my own human form until the day you are able to change when we are together. I see no reason why we should put this off any longer than we already have you have made up your mind that you will accept me as your mate either way, and I have put aside your fears of what will happen when we have young. Lets go to my nest for I very much want you right now."
