Molly was a very big girl who had a thyroid problem and all though out her schooling years she was tormented over her size. She did try and explain about her condition but to the brainless kids in the school they did not or would not understand. This week was her final week in high school and the formal was on Saturday.

I’m Ian and did know and saw the torment of Molly, but I did not participate. It was not my style of friendship. I was also disappointed with my girlfriend having her leg broken in the finals of her hockey game. The opposition girl was mad over Susan scoring the last goal 30 seconds before the final whistle, therefore cancelling the extra time play. The girl just walked up to Susan and deliberately hit her on the back of her leg, just below the muscle, An area they do not wear padding. Everyone was watching her as she did it. Her penalty was a five year total sports participation ban and a charge, by the police, for aggressiveness behaviour. The magistrate recorded a conviction as she was eighteen years old. That will haunt her for the rest of her life.

I walked to the playground, seeing Molly crying. I sat next to her asking “Who’s done what now Molly?”
She looked at me, “It’s nothing, no one done anything?”
I asked “Why are you crying then?”
Molly stated “End of year dance, no partner, walk the red carpet alone. I just wish someone would ask me to just be their partner for the night?” A couple of kids called her a big fat cry baby. I stood up and they ran away. Then I had a brainwave.

I sat next to Molly and held her hand “Molly will you do me the honour of walking the red carpet at the school formal dance please?”
Molly stopped crying and looked hard at me “You have your girlfriend Susan to take, I won’t take that away from her.”
I smiled “No Molly, you wont. Susan broke her leg on the weekend, well her leg was broken by a nasty player. She is in a wheelchair and they cannot negotiate the stairs. So solving two problems by making you happy and I get to walk the red carpet, Susan will be wheeled directly into the hall, the three of us can sit at the same table as she will need two places. So I ask again, will you allow me to walk the red carpet with you?”
She burst out in tears say “Thank you Ian, yes only if Susan allows us.”

After school, visiting Susan in hospital, I told her what I did with Molly. She like that as she has always tried to gain support for her against the school bullies and fully supported my decision. Infact she was very happy I still did the red carpet walk. Susan wrote a note to Molly thanking her for accepting the honour of the walk with her boyfriend. I gave the note to Molly the next morning. Later that day I saw the dance organisers requesting the three of us being place together and an extra place for Susan’s wheelchair. The committee were very happy to comply knowing of Molly’s bullying.

Then I went to Molly and asked her “Molly not to be rude but what is your breast size?”
She looked at me saying “44 J, Why?” I smiled saying “A surprise.” Molly was extremely happy she was going to the last school dance with someone and held my hand. Later I spoke to Susan about my idea and she was very supportive. Again approaching the committee I spoke about the award to Molly. They also agreed with a smile.

It was Saturday and I arranged to pick up Molly from her home. She did live in a nice place. Her parents were pleased I did even this small honour. As I explained an ambulance would be taking my girlfriend, so I was happy to arrive with Molly.

On arrival I helped Molly out of the hire car and we walked along the red carpet arm in arm. Nearly everyone was surprised at my companion for the night. Infact I felt proud to take Molly knowing I had my girlfriends support. Our names were announced together with Molly smiling so very much. I escorted her to our table where Susan was already seated in her wheel chair. Susan held Molly’s hands saying “Molly thank you for escorting Ian inside, I really do appreciate your company, I sat in between both ladies, they talked a lot whilst I did get our drinks. Molly’s face was beaming with joy. We had a great evening and the three of us even danced together.
