Chapter 1

Devin was basically a born troublemaker. The 17-year-old was always having problems at school and was a pain on his parents at home. By contrast, his younger stepsister Katie was an angel. She was in high school English and math despite only being in 7th grade. Her success only fuelled the rebellious streak in Devin.

When Devin arrived home from school on Friday, he saw his family packing for a trip.

"What's going on? Where are you going?" he asked his father, who was loading a suitcase into the car.

"My aunt Betty is sick, so we are going to go help her out and watch your cousins for the weekend" he tells his son.

"Oh, well I guess I should tell you that I have to go to Saturday school tomorrow. I was late too many times in English." He lied, proud of himself by coming up with such a clever story.

"Son, you have to be more responsible... okay, well I guess you better go for your punishment tomorrow. You can use the other car, but I will mark down the mileage, so don't get any ideas of going gallivanting around." The father sternly told Devin.

"Okay, dad." He replied, laughing inside as he had scored a weekend home alone.

"Now you get inside and do your homework right now." His father mentioned as Devin walked slowly into the house.

He watched as his goody-two-shoes stepsister and his parents prepared to leave. Suddenly, they stopped and his stepsister came back inside.

"Devin, I almost forgot, Ashley was going to spend the night tonight, can you please call her and tell her that we had to go away? You know the phone never works at aunt Betty's house."

"Yeah, I guess, whatever." Devin replied as he shrugged, not really paying attention as he watched TV.

Katie scampered out the door and got into the car with the parents and they drove off.

They couldn't have gotten more than a few blocks away before Devin was on the phone, calling his friends and telling them to come over. He told his buddies to score some smoke and beer; the house was open all weekend!

About 45 minutes later, Devin's buddies pulled up. Kevin, Mike and Dan got out of the car smiling. Kevin was carrying a case of beer, Mike had another and Dan had a backpack as the trio entered the house.

As the boys went into the living room, they got the goods out. They put the beer in the fridge and each teen grabbed one. Dan opened the backpack and removed a fat bag of green weed.

"Party time, guys!" He said, smiling. "And guess what else I got, Dev?"

Devin shrugged as Dan pulled out videotape.
