Chapter 6
I sat drinking my water the nurse had brought for me, She had called the on-call doctor to come look at me. I endured the questions and some minor tests, soon I was getting tired of answering them.
I thought to Cortana.
/Cora, Can we do something about these questions?/
I could hear the surprise in her voice
/Cora? Is this my new name?/
I smiled
/Yeah what do you think?/
I could also feel her happiness radiate through me, it was warming to my core.
/I like it! And yes just tell them you are tired, I will give it the extra emphasis it needs/
Wow I could get used to this.
/cool like obi-wan!/
I sensed her confusion
/Obi-wan?/
Then I felt the shifting in my head, it wasn't unpleasant.
/These are not the droids your looking for!?
I felt her chuckle at her own joke.
The doctor at this point was snapping his fingers in front of me.
"Mister Dane, are you alright"
I shook my head
"no actually I am kind of tired, can we continue this later?"
I felt the push of energy, it came from deep with in me, I could almost touch it. The Doctor nodded.
"sure thing, Call me if you feel ill"
I nodded.
"Oh doc, Can I get some food?"
He frowned
"You will have to stick to a liquid diet for awhile."
/Cora can I eat real food?/
She seemed to think for a moment
/Everything looks Ok, just not too much, you will get full rather easy for now/
I looked at the doctor and tried it on my own this time, trying to copy the push.
"Id like some real food Doctor"
he frowned at me.
"OK but take it easy, Ill have the nurse round up something"
I could hear clapping in my head.
/Well done my young Padawan, you learn fast/
I smiled
/I have good teacher/
I shut my eyes and leaned back, I let my senses wander out. First as I focused on the nurse's station I got the thought that she was about to call my mother. I concentrated on that and changed it so she would wait till mourning. I floated further out and sensed the doctor questioning why he let me eat solid food.
/Cora, how come he is questioning that choice?/
/Charlie, its because free will is one of humanities greatest strengths, small changes are easy, but they will still question. The more you change someone the more energy is needed, it can get to the point where very little of the original person is left, You must be careful to only push people in a direction they already would lean to in the right circumstances./
/I see, we will have to be careful about that/
I continued to roam the hospital in my head, I was in ICU and I sensed a great amount of darkness here, Death was present.
/Cora can I help these people/
I could almost hear her thoughts, it was like she was in another room and I could hear what was going on through the wall. I picked up she was concerned about my strength, but thought it was good practice. She also worried it would attract attention to me.
/Cora I can hear what you are thinking?/
/What? You can? That is a new development, but I have nothing to hide, and it could be useful/
I nodded at that.
/So would you mind if I helped them?/
/No, of course not, we will need to touch them though/
I nodded and moved to get out of bed, When my feet touched the floor I almost fell over. At the last second a nurse was there holding on to me, she pulled me upright.
"Whoa I didn't see you come in nurse?'
The nurse giggled and I looked at her face, it was Coratana.
"The hell?!?"
She laughed some more.
