Chapter 6: Death Makes Some Enemies
In a warehouse down in the port of Seattle a phone rings, the sound of the ringing phone echoes through the not so empty areas. A man of about 40 years old mumbles that he needs to get a fucking cell phone.
The man picks up the phone and says, "Tony here, this better be fucking important, I was in the middle of something that mattered!"
"Hello Mr. Tony, this is Manny up in Vancouver. I think we have a problem, but I ain't sure yet."
"Ok, Manny you think you got a problem but ain't sure yet so why the fuck call me, is the word caring written on me somewhere go to your boss you dumb fuck."
"That's part of the problem Mr. Tony, my boss was killed while in the hospital recovering from surgery." Manny said.
"Ok, Manny tell me your bosses name and I will see what's going on, is that all?" Tony asks.
Manny gulps and says, "No sir that's not all, there were 4 other murders in that same hospital, all dealers and one pusher."
Tony thinks for a minute and says, "Ok, Manny tell me what's going on down there that these people are killed and why?"
Manny sighs and says, "Sir there was nothing going on here business as usual, no problem anywhere."
Tony grumbles and says "Fuck you, there is something or better yet someone, there that wanted these people dead. Now think pencil dick! Has anyone moved into your area that said anything to anyone about taking over your area?"
Manny says nervously, "Nnno sir, nobody has heard anything like that anywhere."
Tony gets angry and yells "That's a fucking lie you dip shit and unless you tell me what the fuck is going on you're dead fucking meat. Do you hear me Manny?"
Manny wets himself and says, "Sir I'm telling you the truth there ain't nobody new here."
Tony calms down a little and says, "Alright Many give me the names and what they were."
Manny breathes after what feels like minutes and says, "Okay there was my boss Marco Hines and then there was Larry 'the rat' Simons, he was a dealer small time with big dreams. Then there was Tommy 'the boat' Beltron, dealer nothing more than that he liked boats though. Then there was Tim 'too tall' Jones, dealer, he liked the idea of thinking big but wouldn't amount to shit in an outhouse. Then there was Ruthy 'the dyke' Sams, pusher, with fucking dreams of having more little slave girls. That's all there is sir."
Tony says, "I thought those fucking nick names died out in the 50's? Oh well I know only one and that's your boss he's the cousin to my boss who by the way loved his cousin and won't be happy about his murder."
Manny gets nervous again and says, "Mr. Tony I hope you send some muscle to find out whose behind this I feel very unsafe at the moment?"
"Well, Manny it's like this; we take care of our own and kill those who ain't nothing but fucking trouble. Does that answer your question any?"
Manny says, "Yes sir it answers my question very good, thank you sir."
Tony grins thinking that he has Manny scared and says "If that's all you got to say I have a very unpleasant call to make?"
Manny says, "No, no that's all Mr. Tony sir. I need to get going too. Bye."
Tony likes a quick goodbye and hangs up and starts pacing around the warehouse thinking of a good way to tell his boss about his cousin Marco. Tony finally decides to be honest with the boss. Tony picks up the phone and dials a number. As the phone rings Tony starts worrying.
A very deep and rough voice answers the phone and says, "Mr. Hines' residence, who is calling?"
"Matty, it's me Tony, is the boss in a good mood or should I buy a plot with my name on it?"
Matty thinks for a minute and says "You ain't got a plot yet? Oh man you are shit out of luck then because the boss just found out about his cousin down in Vancouver. You got more bad news? Yous better make it short and sweet Tony because if it's too long and bad, you're dead."
Tony is sweating bullets and says, "Hey I'm just the messenger, why kill me? But I need to risk it and tell the boss the other bad news."
Matty says, "Well it's your life, so here we go Tony."
Matty pulls the phone away from his face and says, "Boss, its Tony from the warehouse he says he needs to talk to you about a few things."
The Boss known as Danny 'The Don' Hines says, "Did you tell him about my loss and that I'm in a killing mood at the fucking moment or does he have good news that will save his life?"
Tony hangs on the phone praying to any god that will listen to his prayer. He hears the boss saying those things and is thinking, oh god I'm going to die.
The boss says, "Tony you better have good fucking news for me. Who killed my cousin Marco? Was it that poor excuse for a black man in Portland or that greasy Latino in Dallas Oregon? Tony I want names and I want a body count now?"
Tony says, "Ah boss, I got names and a body count but it's not what you really want. This is a loss to us, not for us, and I just got the message a little bit ago boss so don't kill me please?"
The Don says, "You say you got names and a body count but it's our loss, hmm, and you didn't say if it was the black man or the greasy Latino so what your going to tell me is that we lost workers."
Tony thinks a minute and says, "That's right boss."
The Don says, "You got the names there Tony? Give them to me and we will make arrangements for their burial and I want the number of deaths and where it happened?"
Tony says, "Boss the loss is 5, counting your cousin, and the location is a hospital."
The Don says, "Okay so there was one already in the hospital that would be Marco, so where were the rest of them killed Tony?"
Tony says, "That's just it boss, they all died in the hospital in the same week."
The Don thinks for a minute and says, "What the fuck are you saying Tony? We got us an avenging fucking nurse here or a whacked out Doctor. Tony I don't believe in coincidences. This is a fucking contract hit and I want to know who by noon tomorrow."
Tony says, "Right boss I got what you mean. The nurses are good for taking care of the wounded, not killing them and as for a whacked out Doctor, why just our guys? Why not a whole floor or worse the whole hospital? I see where it might be a contract but why? Who pissed off who around here and who else gets iced in this?"
