Author's note:

Earlier this summer I went into Boston with my two daughters. We took the subway into town.

On the way home, on the bus and subway with us, were two young people--I'm guessing about 17. They were clearly together, as they were rather all over one another--but in a cute and charming way. They were both cute, and looked very good together--but for some reason they almost seemed a wee bit mismatched. It was just a vague impression, mind you. They looked good together, but they looked different.

So, this story popped into my head.

The descriptions of Rob and Tammy come from those two I saw on the subway, and I put in a scene here on a subway and bus, which is also taken from the couple I saw. The rest, of course, is complete fiction.

But my thanks go to those two anonymous lovers, for inspiring this.
