Graduation day... FINALLY!
We survived our final year and looking back we learned many valuable lessons. I found the love of my life, whom I'm now engaged to and who is carrying our child. We moved into our temporary house a week ago and progress on the custom log home of our dreams is coming along quite nicely. The one we had looked at was just way too much money for way too little.
After the graduation ceremony, just before we left the school for the final time, I spoke with Ms. Voulet and thanked her. I felt I at least owed her that for all the toils I had caused. I also gave her a white envelope telling her it was a gift from myself and Megan... a thank you so to speak... and we hoped her and her husband enjoyed it.
As we were walking to our car I heard her gasp and knew she had opened the envelope I gave her.
"What was in there?" Megan asked.
"Two first-class round trip tickets to Hawaii and reservations for 2 weeks at the all-inclusive Four Seasons Resort in Maui." I replied.
"You'll never cease to amaze me, Mr. Donahue." She replied.
We had a huge party at my parent's house since our current housing was a tad bit on the small side. I bought it figuring that I'll rent it out after we move. It's a small cape cod in an older subdivision, but it's nice and clean and I paid less than half of the market value for it.
We were married on August 1st of 2003 and spent the rest of the month plus some on our honeymoon traveling through Europe. 10 days in France, 2 days in England, 2 days in Ireland, 2 days in Scotland, 2 days in Spain, 4 days in Germany, 2 days in Greece, 5 days in Switzerland, and 10 days in Italy. We had a blast and as soon as we can we'll be going back, although Australia is also somewhere we want to try out.
Our first quarter at college started September 20th, we took part-time schedules to knock out the hard classes we both needed, calculus and biology. Megan wasn't due until early February so we figured we'd at least get them out of the way while we still had time to study without a screaming bundle of joy interrupting us.
They finished construction on our dream home in the first week of December and we moved in right away. Classes let out a week later and we had a very joyous holiday season. We even bought Megan's dad a Hummer H2 SUV for Christmass... it was a spur of the moment thing really. Although now I get the feeling my dad's jealous, so we might be buying another one next year.
January 9th wasn't so good as Megan went into labor. It was downright scary actually since it was a month premature. After 9 hours of labor she gave birth to a healthy baby girl on January 10 at 4:26 am.
We named her Kaia Elise Donahue. She weighed in just around 5.5 pounds and has her mother's reddish hair (albeit not much yet) and my green eyes. They kept both of them in the hospital a week before releasing them.
Business has been great and we keep adding new clients. It's been so good that we're going to build three new storage locations and hire some additional help very soon. A good thing since little Kaia allows us little sleep. My personal investment have also done quite nicely to boot.
Megan stayed out of college until the winter quarter of 2005, when she returned full-time. I had returned part-time in the Spring of 2004 and went full-time in summer-04, fall-04, winter-05, spring-05, summer-05, and fall-05. When Megan went back I dropped to part-time so we could graduate together and so Kaia wouldn't be stuck in day care.
We received our bachelor's degrees in the spring of 2007 since we had taken all summer classes and heavy quarter loads. Mine was a Bachelor's of Arts in Graphic Design, Megan received a Bachelor's of Arts and Science in French with a minor in Education.
She got her teaching certificate just in time and was hired on by our old school to replace Ms. Smith, who moved out of state. Megan continued to take classes part-time to work on a master's degree. I took a year off then went back full-time for a Master's in Information Technology.
On July 4th of 2008 Megan gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. The baby girl, who we named Mary Elizabeth Donahue, was 7 pounds 2 ounces and had blonde hair and blue eyes (we're still trying to figure out who's responsible for that since no one in either of our families has blonde hair). The baby boy, Michael Aaron Donahue Jr., was 7 pounds 6 ounces with brown hair and brown eyes. Kaia was ecstatic about having a little brother and sister, much to our relief.
In August of 2010 Megan gave birth to our fourth child, a baby boy. Joseph Robert Donahue has brown hair and green eyes, and weighed a hefty 9 pounds 2 ounces.
We might write about our experiences during college later on, so until then farewell my friends.
