Chambourne loomed off in the distance. It was a fairly large city, and one with which Eric was quite familiar. He hoped so desperately to be able to find his sister there. He felt terrible about what had happened and, despite his father's harsh objection, he set off to find Gwen. She was probably in trouble and he wanted to be able to help. Since she didn't know where anything other than the river was, she probably would stick to the roads to find her way. This made it easy for Eric, as the only roads out of the village led to either the fields and Chambourne. Since Gwen knew which road led to the fields and probably didn't want to go there, she would probably have headed north to Chambourne. Eric was in very good shape and carried a light load, so he made good time on his journey. He had set out early in the morning and got to the city gates quickly. That was part of the plan, for he knew some of the night watchmen of the city and also knew that they would still be on duty by now.

"Eric? Eric man, top of the morning to you!" the guard greeted him.

"Aye, and the rest of the day for yourself Adam."

"What brings you out here so early my friend?"

"Well, I'm looking for my sister. She's gone off and I fear she may be in trouble."

"Your sister? Never met the girl."

"You tend to do the night watch, right? Were you here last night?"

"Yes indeed."

"Did you see any girl come to the city?"

"Not one I would think to be your sister."

"Trust me, strange things have been happening. Don't take anything for granted."

"Well, there was one girl that seemed to appear quite strangely. She seemed to be not more than a common whore, though quite a fine one to look at."

"Did she have red hair and a very short dress?"

"Short is an understatement for that one!"

"Where did she go?"

"Oh, I took her to the prison. Put her into a cell with another whore. Don't tell me you think it might have been your sister."

"What do you mean?"

"She's gone! She was in this cell along with another one. They couldn't have escaped, that's impossible!"

"Unless she used some kind of magic."

"Eric, magic doesn't extend the far out. It's powers only radiate from the 7 great cities, and the realm of Damier is the nearest one. It's powers wouldn't make it here."

"That power is only for powering magical elements. But magic can still be fueled by another source outside of there."

"But doesn't it take some sort of magic life force? The girl couldn't have been carrying anything"

"I don't know. I don't know what's going on with her. This other whore you spoke of, who was she?"

"Do you know where I might find her?"
