'Man, I hate having these powers!' Jason thought to himself, while dragging his sore ass up the stairs to take a shower 'and Vincent was just teaching me the basics.'

Groaning to himself while he undressed, he reviewed the last few hours. Vincent had begun his lessons with a few brief mental attacks, showing Jason he wasn't as invulnerable as he thought he was. After that, Vincent began teaching. For the better part of an hour, he reviewed and critiqued everything Jason had learned on his own so far. The few things that Jason had bothered to attempt, Vincent had good words for.

"You used your skills well, but they could have been used better. You seem to be a mental control type, rather than a physical control. So, we will focus on your mental controls until you are the best, then we will see what we can do about your physical controls." Vincent had stated, and then launched attack after attack at the younger man's mind.

Jason withstood the first three attacks, and didn't even see the fourth. While focusing on his mental shields, Jason had forgotten all about physical attacks: At least until Vincent had smacked him in the head with a staff. While picking himself off of the ground, Jason had tried to retaliate, only to find that he couldn't move. Vincent had taken advantage of his momentary break in concentration to seize control.

After releasing Jason, Vincent sat down and motioned for Jason to do the same. Once seated, Vincent had explained coordinating the use of physical combat while direct mental combat was engaged. As the concept was so eloquently demonstrated, Jason had to agree there was more than a shred of truth to the concept. That's when Vincent sprang his other surprise on him.

"From now on, we are training you physically as well as mentally. You will be tougher than any marine when I am through with you." He stated.

For the remainder of their time, Vincent ran Jason all over the small park that he had chosen. Vincent made the younger man work for the slightest bit of praise. To drive his lessons home, Vincent generated different situations by chasing Jason, making Jason chase him, and all other forms of torture that he could devise. When it appeared that Jason was collapsing from exhaustion, Vincent brought their training to a halt and brought Jason home.

Taking Jason into the backyard, Vincent had Jason go through a drill designed to cool down his muscles and focus his breathing and mind. After 20 minutes of cool down, Vincent had Jason sit and passed him a container of sweetened tea. "This is to replenish some of the nutrients that you have used. Later, I will show you and your mom how to make some nutrient bars to carry with you. In the event you have a 'battle', you might need to quickly replace some of your energy before continuing. Don't worry though; the bars are very high in energy content. Now go hit the showers!" he said with a smirk.

Reviewing those events, Jason went to his room and stripped off his clothes. He could feel his powers trying to heal his body, revitalizing his sore muscles and cleaning the toxins created during his workout. Suddenly, a thought occurred to him, why couldn't he use his powers while he worked out? Why couldn't his powers be automated to provide extra strength, extra endurance, extra speed, and extra flexibility? He decided, after a few minutes thought, that he would have to ask Vincent about it.

Crossing the hallway, he entered the bathroom and turned on the shower. Stepping in, the heat of the water melted the tension he felt in his body. He sighed and began to wash his hair. Unbeknownst to him, a small figure was outside the shower door. As he rinsed the soap from his hair and face, he felt a sudden breeze that chilled him. Turning to the door of the shower, he allowed his mind to reach out and felt the person kneeling on the floor.

"Damn Kelly, you really scared me!" he exclaimed.

They snuggled for a few minutes before Kelly said, "Umm Jason, your water is getting cold." and giggled her way out of his goose-bumped arms.

Quickly, he finished rinsing his body. Getting out, his sister wrapped a warm towel around him. Kissing briefly, they moved into his room. Once inside, Kelly began to question Jason about his morning. As he reviewed the training with Kelly, he could sense that she wanted to be involved in some way with it. Not because she felt an overwhelming need to become physically fit, but because her love was involved.

While the children were discussing things upstairs, at the kitchen table, Vincent returned from his own shower and sat discussing the morning with Janet. Trusting her own motherly instincts, Janet believed that Vincent was trying to do right by Jason and their family. After discussing the training that Vincent had in mind for Jason, they began to discuss their lives. Vincent found himself telling the woman before him all about his life, hoping that she would find him worthy of the trust she had bestowed on him with her son. For fifteen minutes she sat and absorbed the information that he fed her. The entire time she remained quiet. Upon the completion of his tale, she began to tell him her own story. Neither was aware of the others feelings: Vincent, because it was rude to intrude on another persons family member; Janet, because she didn't share the abilities that Vincent and her son possessed.
