I remember the nights,
Silent screams in the dark,
Hands raised in shadows,
Left their mark,
Your words cut deeper,
Than any knife could do,
I was just a child,
Hiding my truth.
But I became the mother,
I always wanted you to be,
Found the strength in the wreckage,
Where you left me lost at sea,
Brick by brick, I built my heart,
Took the pain and made it art,
Now I’m soaring free,
From your ghosts, finally.
A Brother’s eyes turned to me, violation
In a home filled with preditation,
I seeked safety in your arms,
You threw me down when I stood tall,
Thought I’d crumble, thought I’d fall,
But every tear was fuel for fire,
I learned to climb, I learned to aspire.
I became the mother,
I always wanted you to be,
Found the strength in the wreckage,
Where you left me lost at sea,
Brick by brick, I built my heart,
Took the pain and made it art,
Now I’m soaring free,
From your ghosts, finally.
Lonely nights, I walked the line,
Depressed but dreaming, taking time,
To heal the wounds, to find my voice,
In the silence, I made my choice.
Putting the pills away,
I tell myself I will be okay.
I became the mother,
I always wanted you to be,
Found the strength in the wreckage,
Where you left me lost at sea,
Brick by brick, I built my heart,
Took the pain and made it art,
Now I’m soaring free,
From your ghosts, finally.
So here’s my anthem, hear me sing,
From the ashes, I found my wings,
I’m done with fear, I’m done with you,
Building love, my dreams anew,
I became the mother,
I always wanted you to be,
In the love I’ve found,
I finally found the beautiful me.
