Chapter 16

That weekend Joe dropped Lisa off at the house where she was to stay for the next two weeks. She had told her parents that an old school friend was expecting and had asked her to stay with her until she had the imminent baby. Settling into her room for the fortnight, Lisa fell into a routine of medical examinations in the mornings and helping with the animals in the afternoons. Dr Milton took many blood and urine samples for anaylsis and did regular ultra sound scans on her. The three blobs in her belly were now banana shaped and were about five inches long.

During the first week, Dr Milton showed her more of his experimental techniques. She was especially intrigued by the machine he had developed for mixing the fertilised eggs and cell culture before implanting in the host womb. He demonstrated it to her when he injected rats eggs into a sheep. On the Thursday he promised her that she could assist him in implanting a dogs egg into a pig. "Put these gloves on and take the frozen egg from the freezer." He advised her."Now load the straw into the side chamber and set the temperature to 33 degrees. Whilst it is warming, read the chart for the quantity of dog culture required for a single egg. Set the dial to that amount and wait until the green ready light shows that the egg has reached the necessary temperature. Now the tricky bit..."

He showed her how the insemination probe had to be inserted into the uterus of the small wriggling sow that was to become the mother. She held the animal whilst he expertly slid the steel canister and its trailing wires and tubes into the vagina of the pig. Looking now at the monitors on the wall, she was allowed to press the green button which operated the pump to squirt the whole mixture deep into the pigs womb. She always got off on this. The thought of forcibly impregnating the animals with alien eggs was so erotic to her.

Finally the week of her 'confinement' arrived. Lisa was experiencing a mixture of emotions. Fear, joy, apprehension and expectancy all rolled into one. Dr Milton was also nervous. This was going to be a momentous medical advance or total failure. He discussed the birth with her. "A cat usually finds a private place to give birth. She will lie on her back and squeeze the kittens from her abdomen. I suggest that you do something similar What do you think?"

Lisa's shivered with excitement. She was being asked what position she prefered to give birth to three kittens. No other woman had ever been asked that! " What will I feel when I go into labour?" she asked.

"To be totally honest, Lisa, I'm not sure. I expect it will be the usual stomach cramps followed by the dilation of your cervix, then delivery, one kitten at a time. We'll bring you to the laboratory for the birth, as I've got all the necessary instruments and pain killers if you require any."

"Pain?" thought Lisa. She looked forward to that...

He took a sample of the breast milk that had become more copious in her last weeks. The analysis of the fluid showed it contained normal human constituents and couldn't be discerned from any other human breast milk.

On the Friday of her sixth week, Richard scanned her again. "They are the exact size I would expect for full term kittens. Well done Lisa! All you have to do now is deliver them." He said smiling.

Saturday came without incident and they had to make up another story to extend Lisa's stay if labour failed to begin by the next day. On the Sunday Lisa's sixth sense started to tell her that this was the day. Her appetite went completely and she felt unusually tired. At three in the afternoon she felt like someone was sticking a spike into her side. Then came the first cramp...

"Richard... " she said trying to remain calm. "I think... oohhhh!" Richard helped her to her feet and they walked slowly to the laboratory. They stopped once to let a contraction subside.

He helped her onto the examination table and she smiled as he gently and discretely removed her knickers. "Lift you legs into the stirrups, Lisa, I need to check if you're dilating."

Lisa did as asked and watched him don a pair of latex gloves. He inserted two fingers into her vagina and felt her cervix. "One centimetre dilation already. " he announced. "At that rate I estimate you'll have the first within the next hour."

Lisa's contractions came more frequently. She felt the urge to turn on her knees. Then history was made as Lisa's cervix dilated to three centimetres. With her backside in the air and her face buried in a pillow she squeezed a slimy bag containing a live fully formed kitten from her womb.
