Chapter 2: The Last Score
Two black guys robbed a Wells Fargo truck up in Memphis. The FBI thought they headed south and notified every county sheriff within a 100 miles to be on the lookout for a blue Ford Taurus with Tennessee plates. Three days later that car was found abandoned in St. Frances county Ark. The hunt for them changed to Arkansas.
About a week later I was cruising the back roads in my new Ford truck. That’s right it has been almost 20 years and Jimbob is still honoring our deal! As I pass an old cabin that is used as a deer camp, I see a black Cadillac with Tennessee plates sitting in the front yard. A black guy is on the porch smoking a cigar. When he sees my truck he turns and goes in the house. I cruise on by pretending I did not see him.
This cabin does not have electricity so he has not seen his picture on every news channel. If he had he probably would have shaved off those short deadlocks of his with the blue beads on the ends! Maybe if he had shaved those dreadlocks and waved at me I would have thought he was down here scouting a place to deer hunt. But he did not shave his head or wave. I recognized him!
They killed two Wells Fargo guards and wounded another. They got away with over two million in cash!
Maybe they still have it!
I drive a little ways down the road and park the truck. Using the woods as a cover I move back up to within about 10 yards of the cabin. It is a one room house with a wood burning cook stove on one side with a kitchen table sitting next to it. There are two bunk beds along the other wall. The black men are sitting at the table eating lunch. There is a nine millimeter pistol laying on the table.
The front door is un-locked and I have a .45 in my hand as I enter. (The same pistol that had killed JR years ago. It was never claimed so I took it out of the evidence locker along with the bullet that killed him.) The man facing the door grabs for the 9mm so he gets the first shot. It hit him in the forehead. The man with his back to me jumps up and starts to run towards me! I put two rounds in his chest. He is on the floor and is gurgling blood out his mouth as I put him out of his misery with one in his head.
I look around the cabin and discover three Wells Fargo bags under one of the bunk beds! They are filled with money! The feds had said it was over 2 million in various dominations. Later that night in the privacy of my home I would discover it was $2,130,300 exactly.
