Chapter 1: The Black Girl
I was about to go to lunch one day when two of my deputies brought this black girl in. I asked what was going on. As one of the deputies put her in the holding cell the other explained.
“She was involved in a fight at the junior college. She sent two guys to the hospital so we brought her in. the Dean gave me this video he got off the hall cameras. Let’s watch it.”
As the girl sat quietly in her cell I loaded the cd into the computer in my office. It shows this black girl talking to two white girls in the hall. They are approached by two white boys. There is no sound so it is un-clear what they are arguing about. Then one boy pushes the black girl into the arms of the other boy who attempts to hold her. She kicks the one who pushed her in the nuts then stomps her boot heel onto the foot of the guy holding her. He releases her and she turns and hits him on the jaw. He drops like a rock. She then turns back to the one who she had kicked in the nuts. She hits him in the face.
Both guys are down as campus security reaches the scene. She does not offer any resistance. My guys show up, handcuff her and walk her out of the picture.
“Where are the two boys?”
“They were transported to the hospital. Neither were hurt too bad. It is their pride that is hurt the most. That skinny girl whipped their asses.”
I left my office and went to the holding cell.
“Ms. Tina Johnson, let’s you and I talk in my office.”
“I know my rights. I am not going to say anything without a lawyer.”
“I am not charging you. I just want you to explain somethings to me if you don’t mind.”
In my office I turned on the video. I stopped it with her talking to the two white girls.
“What were you talking about?”
“We had just finished a class and were talking about an assignment we had been given.”
I started the video again. I stopped it when the two boys arrived.
“What was that conversation about?”
“I’m a lesbian. Everybody knows that. They were accusing me of hitting on their girlfriends.”
“Were you?”
“Hell no! Neither of them are my type. Know what I mean?”
I look back at the screen and laugh.
“I see what you mean.”
Both girls are a little overweight. I started the video again. I stopped it when both boys were down.
“Where did you learn to fight like that?”
“I did three years in the Marines. While I was stationed at Camp Lejeune I took some self-defense classes off base in Jacksonville. It was taught by a couple of retired Marines who were hand-to hand combat instructors.”
“What was your MOS while in the Marines?”
