Chapter 79: Tuesday, Oct. 30

Coming of Age Sex Story: Chapter 79: Tuesday, Oct. 30 - The continuing adventures of Gary Robinson and the gang from Best Summer Ever. How will our hero handle juggling playing football, his growing number of girlfriends and his senior year of high school? Let's find out! I'll try to post every Saturday, but don't hold me to that.

“Time to get up, Daddy,” a cheerful voice seeped into my brain as someone tugged on my arm. “You go wash up. I’ll get started on breakfast.”

“OK, baby,” I mumbled, making absolutely no effort to obey Marie’s command.

In fact, I had every intention of grabbing another five as I burrowed deeper into the mattress. A couple more deep breaths should do the trick.

It didn’t do me any good, though. My phone rang before I could get my brain shut back down. Funny. I don’t remember turning it the phone, not the brain back on last night.

A look showed it was on the nightstand, plugged in. Marie must’ve done that for me. It would have turned on automatically when it started charging.

And it was Dad. Better answer it.

“Mornin,’ Dad,” I grunted once I forced myself into a sitting position.

“Your mother asked me to make sure you got to school on time,” he said a little louder than necessary, like he was making sure she could hear him following her orders or something, before lowering the volume by a good bit. “She’s not real happy with you right now.”

“Tell her happiness is a choice,” I said, reciting one of Mom’s oft-used lines that she got from some self-help book. “She chose to fly off the handle just like Mrs. Ensberry did. Morgan’s not pregnant and in fact was on schedule. Her mother started early.”

“I didn’t really need to know that,” Dad said. “Are you coming home tonight?”

“Has Mom calmed down?” I asked.

“Not really,” he admitted.

“Then I’ll wait until she does,” I said.

“Would you just quit it with the passive-aggressive bullshit?” he sighed in exasperation. “I have to live with her, ya know.”

“And that’s your choice,” I said, “but don’t expect me to provide you with a safe hiding place if it gets to be too much. Mine’s already being used and there’s not much space to begin with. I’ll check in after practice tonight, but if she starts up again...”

“Then you might ought to steer clear,” my father said. “She pretty much picked right up this morning where she left off last night. Just be warned you’re going to have to deal with her sooner or later. Defying her authority is worse than the original crime in her eyes.”

“Except there was no original crime,” I said with a little heat. “When she’s willing to accept that fact, I’ll deal with the rest of the situation. On my terms.”

“Watch it, she’s still your mother,” Dad said with some heat of his own.

“And always will be,” I said. “Look, I’d better get moving. I’m supposed to give Sherry Parker a ride to school and I haven’t even started getting ready.”

“Get to it,” he said. “I’ll let your mother know you’re still alive.”

The conversation at least motivated me to get moving. I could already smell and hear the sizzle of whatever Marie was frying up for breakfast. A quick wipedown in the sink, an even quicker shave and brush and I was pulling a fresh polo and pair of slacks off the wire rack of shelves.

“It’s on the table, Daddy,” Marie called out as I pulled on socks and loafers.

“Thank you, baby,” I said, making sure I had wallet, keys, etc. before stepping over to the little table.

My personal maid/cook/housekeeper/bedwarmer had done something different this morning, cooking up sausage then mixing it in as she scrambled eggs. Not quite an omelet, but close enough for my needs. Warm tortillas and the little jar of Familia Benavidez salsa were a perfect compliment.

“Was that your father who called?” Marie asked as she settled in with her coffee.

“Uh-huh,” I grunted, shoveling a forkful into my mouth.

“Are you going home tonight?” she asked.

“We’ll see,” I said around the food. “I’ll let Kacie be the canary.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” the little waif asked.

“Way back when,” I started after swallowing, “coal miners would lower a canary in a cage down the mine shaft to check for noxious fumes. If the canary was still alive when they pulled the cage back up, it meant the environment was safe enough for the miners to enter. Canary became something of a code name for folks sent into a situation to see just how hazardous it is.”

“Daddy, that’s terrible!” Marie cried in horror. “How could they do something like that to a poor, little bird?”

“Can’t say,” I said, scooping up another forkful, “but it probably had something to do with the mine owners’ pursuit of the almighty dollar. Business tycoons back then weren’t the most scrupulous sort.”

Of course, a lot of the current ones weren’t much better, I thought. If they could do away with safety measures to increase profits, I’m sure they would without blinking.

Marie sat quietly sipping her coffee as she pondered the fate of poor, little birds while I finished my breakfast. I was definitely fueled up for the day. I might not even need much lunch after that. Chuck would be ecstatic.

“That was very good, baby,” I said, leaning over to give her a peck on the top of her head. “I’d better get moving. I’ll call you to let you know where I’m going to be tonight.”

“OK, Daddy,” she moped, still anguished at the thought of dead canaries. “Love you.”

“Love you, too, baby,” I said, heading to grab my backpack from the easy chair where Marie had put it last night.

Stepping out the door, I was met by Buck of the security team at the end of the walk. Sarge was waiting in the black SUV that blocked me in. It looked like Arlene had already gotten her early start, based on the lack of a blue Jag in the garage.

“Mornin,’” I nodded at the security dude.

“Good, you’ve got your gizmo,” he said, indicating the device that was still hooked to the lanyard holding my student ID. “Mrs. Johnson wanted to make sure.”

“Yeah, Mr. Johnson wanted me to have it in easy reach instead of in my pocket,” I said, using the fob to open the trunk so I could stow my backpack.

“What made ya come here last night?” Buck asked. “I thought you were at home this week.”

“My mother got the wrong idea about something,” I said as I unlocked the driver’s door. “It was easier to avoid the situation than it was to convince her there’s nothing to be upset about. She had too good a mad on to just let it go.”

“Been there, done that,” he snorted. “It gets worse when you’re married. Mount up. We’re supposed to make sure you’re on time for school.”

I only had to wait a bit for Buck to rejoin Sarge and back out enough for me to get moving. It was enough time for me to shoot Sherry a text that I was on my way.

I pulled up in front of the Parker home just before 7:30 and made my way to the front door. Where I waited a little longer than I had in Arlene’s driveway.

“She’s almost ready,” Mrs. Parker, who looked to be in something of a rush, said when the door was finally answered. “She got a call from one of the other girls, which meant she had to call another girl and, well, you know how girls are.”

“Yes, ma’am,” I smiled, stepping inside to wait just a little bit more.

It was only a couple of minutes before Sherry made her appearance, then all of a sudden I was the one not moving fast enough.

“We need to hurry,” she said, grabbing her bookbag. “The other girls are already on their way.”

“Other girls?” I asked in mild confusion, which some might say was my default setting.

“You know,” Sherry said with a touch of exasperation, “the other girls. Bye, Mom. See ya tonight.”

I hurried to follow the JV cheerleader with a “bye, Mrs. Parker” thrown over my shoulder and managed to get to the car to open the door for her.

“Want to tell me about it?” Sherry asked as I buckled in.

“About what?” I asked, still a tad confused.

“Last night,” she snapped. “Kacie sounded pretty upset when I talked to her. She said you just stormed out.”

“I didn’t storm out,” I said, thinking I hadn’t even seen my sister — she should have been at band practice — in the brief time I’d been in the house last night. “I just didn’t hang around to have another chunk taken out my butt. My mother was operating under an incorrect assumption.”

“Well, Morgan’s all torn up about you getting in trouble over it,” Sherry said, letting me know that there must be very few people who weren’t aware of the cause of the situation.

I could only imagine what incorrect assumptions were being made in other minds. This was too much fucking drama for me.

“Just don’t do anything to get yourself grounded,” she added. “Staci and I are looking forward to going out Saturday night.”

“I’ll try,” I sighed, “but it’s probably already too late.”

Sherry waited until we arrived at school to dig any further. I think that was because she knew what awaited me — all of my other high school girlfriends were gathered near my parking spot. Every damn one of them. Kacie, Morgan, Bethany, Staci, Elise, Riley and Ny’Quesha. I half expected to see Stephanie Tucker lurking on the perimeter of the group as they made way to allow me to pull in.

“Good morning, ladies,” I said as I got out and hurried around to get Sherry’s door. “To what do I owe the honor?”

“You know exactly what,” my sister pouted. “Where did you go last night?”

“The apartment,” I said, moving to the trunk to get my backpack. “I had some studying to do and wanted a quiet place to do it. The house wasn’t very quiet.”

“I talked to your mother,” Morgan said sheepishly. “She didn’t listen any better than mine. I’m sorry you got in trouble because of that.”

“Not much we can do about it now,” I said, starting toward the main building with the girls following. I needed to swing by my locker and had less than 15 minutes before the first bell.

“Are we going to be able to go out Saturday?” Staci asked.

“I honestly don’t know,” I said. “If not, I guess you’ll just have to come over to check on me.”

“Just make sure you’re out of lockup when grades come out,” Ny’Quesha said. “I expect to get my reward for making straight A’s.”

“Then you’d better buckle down and do a good job on all your tests next week, young lady,” I commanded, getting a grin out of the preacher’s daughter.

Next week would be the end of the second six weeks with another round of tests. It helped that we’d be playing an opponent in the Badgers that our JV could beat. I was sure we’d start gearing up for all that today. Monday’s classes had all been about catching up from the weekend.

“And volleyball will be over by then,” Elise reminded me. “I’m looking forward to a real date.”

“So am I,” Riley added.

“We’ll figure something out,” I said, thinking it was Staci’s turn this week with Sherry expecting to tag along, Morgan’s turn next week if her parents permitted, followed by Kacie the next week. “Don’t forget, my availability will depend on how long football lasts.”

Looks like my sister was going to miss another turn. Good thing she had Danny to fall back on. For a dinner/movie date, at least. He wouldn’t be much use to her if she expected a little action.

We reached the southeast entrance and I held the door as all eight girls trooped into the school building. The girls slowly dropped out, Ny’Quesha being the first as she headed to the West Wing, when we neared their lockers. Kacie, then Staci and Sherry departed our little parade to begin their school day, giving me hugs and pecks on the cheek as they bade me farewell.

“Are you going to be OK?” Bethany asked with a worried look.

“Why wouldn’t I be?” I grinned, causing her to frown slightly before pushing those delectable tits into my torso and giving me a little kiss.

The inquisition continued when we approached Morgan’s locker.

“You’re sure you’re all right?” Morgan asked.

“I’m fine,” I assured her. “It’s not the first time my mother’s been upset with me, just the first time this week.”

The fun didn’t end as Elise, Riley and I rounded the corner and headed through the North Wing toward our lockers in the northwest part of the building. Just as we were moving past the main office, Elise’s dad stepped out and flagged us down.

“A quick word, you two,” the superintendent commanded. “Riley, you may carry on. Good game last night.”

“Yes, sir,” the busty brunette blushed as she scurried off.

“What’s up, Daddy?” Elise asked innocently as we stepped into the office.

“What happened between you two in sixth period yesterday?” Dr. Stirling demanded. “Mr. Debussy is pretty sure you weren’t just rinsing out beakers.”

Elise’s fiery blush pretty much confirmed his suspicions. Fuck it. He could expel me if he wanted. And I could slip up and reveal the relationship between Montero and Dunwoody happening under his leadership. It wasn’t like I did anything illegal.

“I gave her a quick footrub,” I admitted, causing the tall man to scowl and his tall daughter to blush even more. “She was worried about being able to play well last night.”

“I told you not to do that on school grounds,” he snapped, looking around to make sure we weren’t overheard. “Unfortunately, we haven’t had time to add that to the student code of conduct, so I can’t really do anything. As a school administrator, anyway. As her father, I can do quite a lot.”

“It wasn’t like that, Daddy,” Elise insisted. “The only parts he touched were my feet. And it did help me play better.”

The superintendent snorted at that, giving me a look that indicated I’d better behave myself where his daughter was concerned.

“Get to class,” he ordered. “And I’d better never hear about something like this happening again. This is your last warning.”

“Yes, sir,” I said, reaching for the door.

“Yes, Daddy,” Elise said, giving her father a peck on the cheek.

We were back in the hallway, the amount of traffic increasing precipitously as the first bell neared, when my lab partner couldn’t control herself.

“God, he really would freak if he thought we were getting it on in the Chem storage room,” she snickered, pressing a boob into my arm. “Like I’m going to start stripping in a place like that.”

“Probably not a wise thing to do,” I muttered.

“Now, if I ever get you alone in the girls locker room,” she mused, “I’m pretty used to taking my clothes off in there.”

“Don’t even go there,” I said. “Coach Doss probably has a hit out on me as it is.”

“Not after last night,” Elise giggled. “I had 22 kills and six blocks. She might ask you to give footrubs to the whole team before we leave Friday, though, or at least the starting lineup. And maybe a couple of girls who rotate in first.”

“Don’t go there, either,” I said. “I’d have to skip all my morning classes to take care of all y’all.”

At least I wouldn’t have to worry about Elise dealing with menstrual issues again during volleyball season. I didn’t want to know about where the other volleyball girls were in their cycles.

“When will you find out what time you’re playing Friday?” I asked as we turned down my row of lockers.

“Probably tomorrow,” she said. “The other three matches are all tonight.”

“Well, we’d better get to class,” I said, stealing a smooch before I opened my locker. “I’ll see you sixth period.”

Elise departed with one last kiss and I hurried to prepare for my morning classes. I grabbed Economics and what I didn’t already have for Western Civ and English IV. I decided to leave Algebra II in the backpack, thinking I could check my homework one more time during lunch.

I closed the locker to see Riley standing there with a bashful expression.

“I didn’t get my kiss,” she blushed before violating the PDA policy and putting two more dents in my chest.

The bell rang, forcing me to pry myself loose. I had five minutes to get to Mr. Cochran’s room before resuming the educational process. It was a bit of a surprise when Riley hooked my arm, pressing a sizable boob into my side, and escorted me toward the East Wing. It turned out her first class was in the eastern end of the North Wing.

“I’m going to have to get you to give me one of those footrubs next week,” she said casually. “It seemed to help Elise.”

“Well, it looked like she was cramping really bad during last Thursday’s match,” I said. “I just wanted her to feel better last night.”

“Oh, last night wasn’t a problem,” the busty girl grinned. “She finished sometime over the weekend. She just wanted to come and you were right there.”

Fuckin’ hell! Was that all I was to these girls? A ready source of orgasms on demand?

Not that I had a problem with providing such a valuable service, but still, man.

“Getcher pretty butt to class, young lady,” I growled, swatting said pretty butt, which caused her to giggle and wiggle said pretty butt as she disappeared into a classroom.

I had a hard time believing this was the same girl who acted like she was ready to rip my balls off not even three weeks ago. Now, she was basically asking me to make her come. I wonder if she squirts like Elise.

I shook my head as I turned the corner into the East Wing. I didn’t have time to think about it right now. I had maybe two minutes before the tardy bell rang.

I sincerely hope the rest of the day will be less eventful. I had enough to deal with right now.

The echo of the tardy bell hadn’t completely faded as I stepped into my first-period class. Mr. Cochran gave me a curious look as I hurried to my desk.

“Oversleep again, Mr. Robinson?” the teacher asked — just a touch snidely, I thought — as I took my seat.

“Dr. Stirling wanted a quick word,” I said. “Figured I’d better try to stay on his good side.”

“Yes,” he muttered, “especially if you’re carrying on with his daughter.”

That drew a few snickers from other students, but we were soon back in our routine of trying to stay awake as Mr. Cochran’s monotone droned on. Our six-weeks test would be next Wednesday, Nov. 7. We were given 10 problems to work tonight and informed there would be a writing assignment for the weekend, but we’d have to wait to learn which topic we were to write on.

The first two days next week would be spent reviewing, then the test. I got the feeling Chuck would be spending a few hours at the apartment on Sunday. Better warn Marie. She might need to make another grocery run.

Western Civ was more of the same. We went over more of the Kalmar War with the Hanseatic League 1426-1435 and Mrs. Edwards announced we’d have two tests — a “short one” on our current topic tomorrow, two days earlier than originally scheduled, and the six-weeks test next Monday. Thursday and Friday would be review days. It was our responsibility not to forget it all over the weekend.

That’d mean going back to catch up on Machiavelli, the Reconquista and whatever the hell we’d been studying at the start of the six weeks. It’d been so long ago, I couldn’t remember. And that had been just about the time my locker got trashed. I’d better make friends with someone in the class and compare notes just to make sure.

Karen was waiting for me with a look of concern when I arrived for English IV. We’d cover Act IV of “Macbeth” today, finish up with Act V tomorrow and have a test Thursday. Our six-weeks test would be next Tuesday. More reviewing in between.

“How are you doing?” my babelicious aunt asked quietly. “I talked to Claire last night and again this morning. She’s taking today off and letting Patty handle things at the club.”

“I’m fine,” I said, wondering what my mother’s reaction would be if I ever tried to take a day off school just because I was upset about something. Easier to just not get upset. “I’ll let Kacie scope things out for me before I put in an appearance at the house.”

“Where’d you stay last night?” she asked.

“At the apartment,” I said. “It was quieter there and I needed to study.”

“I hope you don’t mind, but I’ve asked a colleague to talk to you,” Karen blushed prettily. “Dr. Ramakrishnan is also taking a sabbatical this year and came to visit for a few days. I was thinking your lunch period would work.”

“As long as I can eat something first,” I sighed, thinking the offensive linemen better be prepared to fend for themselves today.

I took my seat and we got into Act IV. Macbeth chased down the weird sisters to get a little clarification on the prophecies and they, following Hecate’s orders, fed him a load of haggis in particularly graphic images. First, an armored head told him to beware of Macduff. Then a bloody kid told him that no one born of a woman will be able to harm him, making the dude feel pretty fuckin’ invincible. And then a kid with a crown said Macbeth will be safe until Great Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane Hill.

Dr. Robinson made sure to point out that even at the time of our tale, the two locations were separated by some distance and the hill was free of trees. Nowadays, it was something like 30 miles between them. She was looking forward to checking it out when she visited the UK early next year. But she had to hit Byron’s gravesite first.

I was packed up and ready to roll out when the bell rang. I didn’t want to give Karen another chance to ask how I was doing. Besides, I had to get my ass to the fieldhouse. It was leg day.

Coach Bennett outdid himself today, reminding us little “pissaints” we’d better pick it up if we wanted to clinch the district championship on Friday night. Be a real shame if the No. 6 team in the state missed out because some peckerwood slacked off this week.

It was the first I’d heard of our position in the state poll and the first time any of the coaches had mentioned winning the championship. Coach Tucker seemed to favor the approach of taking care of all the little details first, then seeing what the end result was.

Of course, Coach Bennett paid particular attention to me, constantly reminding me that I still had a lot of catching up to do if I wanted to reach the level of my fellow receivers. I bit my tongue to avoid reminding him that they all had a four- or five-year head start on me.

We finally wrapped things up, having worked up a good enough sweat to make the team room particularly fragrant during film study. I briefly considered going for a quick rinse. Instead, I joined everyone else at the bulletin board to confirm that we really had moved up two spots. And we did it without anyone who’d been ranked above us last week losing.

I was only mildly disappointed to see the Cougars hadn’t totally dropped out. They were still listed in others receiving votes. They got one. No one in the top 10 had more than one loss.

“That was from their hometown paper’s sportswriter,” someone behind me asserted. “That dude voted them No. 1 every week since the preseason poll until we beat their ass. What a homer.”

I took a very quick look at Art Riddell’s game story from the Daily News. I shouldn’t have wasted even that much time. The little bit of the lead that I saw read: “Super sub Gary Robinson did it again Friday, throwing for...”

Yeah, I’d better stay away from that kinda shit. Grandma must’ve bought enough copies for every resident of Buchanan County to get one. It was time to familiarize myself with the Cardinals defense, anyway.

Film study held no real surprises. The Cardinals based out of a 3-4 like everyone else in our district. The one thing I noticed from the footage of them against the Cougars was they’d overshift their defensive line, putting an end over Brett Donley, then bring the weakside outside linebacker up to cover the vacated end spot. That seemed to work for a couple of things — Donley had a much tougher time getting into his routes and what was essentially a four-man front was fairly effective against the run.

The thing is, we don’t use a single tight end that much, especially as a main receiver, and the Cardinals almost always went with safety help on one of the wide receives. That would leave our slots one-on-one against linebackers. Calvin and Ngogwe would eat that shit up and I think they knew it. Even Hernando and Fernando — The Tall one and The Short One — should have success against it.

Me? I’d be more than content let the other guys do all the work and go hold for extra points.

Later in the game, which never saw more than a one-score difference, the Cardinals started playing more for the deep pass. They went with a nickel package to start the fourth quarter and a dime with two defensive backs replacing the outside linebackers the last couple of possessions.

Unless we desperately needed to score right away, we’d be able to get a minimum of five yards a snap with our running backs against that. We’d just have to avoid being in such a position.

Coach Tucker gathered us all together to go over what we’d watched as Morgan, casting me a concerned look, handed out gameplans. I got the feeling I’d be carrying in a lot of short pass plays at the start. We’d just have to see what the Cardinals threw at us Friday night.

Before I could reach my locker to prepare for a needed shower, Coach Tucker caught up to me.

“Just need a quick word,” he said quietly as he steered me toward his office. “Your aunts made me promise.”

“Both of them?” I asked.

“I took it they were both operating under orders from your grandmother,” he said as we stepped into his inner sanctum. “Patty called me before I left the house and Dr. Robinson talked to me when I stopped in at the teacher’s lounge after the freshman practice.”

Sounds about right. Grandma did have a way of employing overwhelming force if she thought it necessary.

“So, are you OK?” Coach asked once he closed the door. “Is this going to be an issue Friday?”

“I’m fine,” I said, looking him in the eye. “This is nothing compared to the last time someone accused me of getting a girl pregnant. I was able to play that week, wasn’t I?”

Coach grinned tightly at the memory of our being besieged by paparazzi.

“Yeah, but we aren’t playing the Tigers this week,” he said. “I need everyone to be at their best for this one and however many more we have coming.”

“I’ll be ready,” I said. “I can’t wait for them to leave me open by bringing an outside linebacker. The slots are going to have big games if they do that against us.”

“Go get your shower,” he snorted, fighting off another grin. “And you might want to avoid Dr. Stirling if he’s around. Word is he’s not real happy with you today.”

“Yes, sir,” I said, not bothering to explain the superintendent had already had a word with me and his daughter.

Bell, shower, dress, rush outside to find my first official girlfriend, still sporting a concerned expression, waiting for me.

“How are you doing?” Morgan asked as she hooked an arm and turned toward the cafeteria.

“Hangin’ in there,” I said, wondering how many times I was going to be asked such questions this week. “Got an Economics assignment, a test in Western Civ tomorrow and one in English on Thursday. I don’t know if I’ll be available to give you a footrub before Thursday evening.”

“We’ll figure something out,” my little elf pouted. “Maybe I can sneak over tonight.”

“I’m not sure where I’ll be, though,” I sighed. “If I’m at the house, my mother will be glued to your side to make sure we can’t be alone.”

“We’ll make it work,” Morgan said. “You’ll see.”

We reached the southeast entrance and got in line for lunch. Things seemed to move smoothly despite our somewhat late arrival and Miss Carla was soon slapping a double portion of meatloaf on my tray. Jed and Chuck wouldn’t go hungry today. There was no way I could eat all that after the breakfast Marie had fed me.

I wondered how Mrs. Johnson felt about this part of her job. It certainly couldn’t have been what she envisioned when first handed the assignment of keeping me safe. You’d think the security teams would’ve been pulled out of here by now. I mean, it’d been almost a month since all the shit with the paparazzi started. I hadn’t been asked about impregnating any teen starlets in a couple of weeks now.

I guess the deal with the fake detective and whatever was going on with the Matamoros cartel had them feeling a little wary. Just tell me when to duck. I had enough shit goin’ on right now.

Morgan and I took our regular seats at our regular table with the rest of our regular group. Most of the guys were already talking about what music to request for next week’s practice after we clinched the district title.

“I thought we had to go 7-0,” I said. “You won’t be able to choose for another week.”

“Coach is willing to negotiate,” Jed said from a few seats down. “If we don’t completely curb stomp the Badgers, we don’t deserve to be in the playoffs, anyway. Those dudes might lose to the Tigers.”

“Can’t believe the Badgers beat the Bears coupla weeks ago,” Marshawn said, shaking his head.

“That was mostly ‘cause Gary got half the Bears defense kicked out and suspended for that game,” Chuck snorted.

“And got their best receiver shot in the ass the next night,” Marshawn added. “Don’t know what happened to that other fool the cops hauled off.”
