Head in her hands, she asked herself the same question she had asked herself for millennia— What is the point?

Dealing with subversives. Destroying unwanted desires.

It’s either manipulate or be manipulated...

A rumble echoed through the halls of her palace and she jerked her head up. The distance and direction suggested it came from the valley far below. But what was it? It sounded ... explosive.

She strode to the balcony and looked out across her land. A swath of trees and vegetation had been flattened far below. Branches and odd debris still rained into the jungle; shredded leaves still fluttered like confetti.

But it was the wall of rock—where before there had been nothing—that captured her attention. The free-standing wall sparkled with a thousand colors from within, and the crushed jungle in front of it looked magic-blasted. From the wall emanated a feeling, a power she hadn’t felt in ages, a power she despised and yet desired—still.

Could it be? It felt like ... Earth.

A long-contained frustration rose from the center of her being, hot embers sparking into a blaze. Was there finally a chance? A chance for vengeance!

She spun, her powerful voice carrying across her Queendom. “D’Luvlia! I have need of a scout. Prepare the construct!”

She turned to consider the rock wall, in which—she was sure—an opening led back to the land from which she had been exiled. Conquest requires intelligence before aggressive action...

About the Authors

Thomas J. Bruno graduated with honors in Electrical Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy. In the Air Force, he navigated the low-level, high velocity RF-4 Reconnaissance jet throughout the Far East.

While working toward his Master’s Degree in English, he received the coveted Bazzanella Literary Award for short fiction. He is married with three highly talented sons. He and his wife Elsa have owned several businesses including two Papa’s! Restaurants; one in Woomera, Australia and the other currently operating in Florence, CO.

Tom and co-author, Rob Storey, published Zotikas: Sparks of Revolution. Tom went on to write and produce two musical plays with scores by his son Lucas.
