Chapter 3

I heard the door start to open then voices softly outside the room “what time did he awaken” from a male voice “just before 6, he was agitated and pulling on his arm restraints and began moving his legs around” replied the female voice from earlier.

I calmed him down then raised the head of the bed and let him have a couple of ice chips for the dry mouth. He has been calm since and hasn’t spoken again. All his vitals are within normal ranges and he showed no sign of infection when the bandages were changed at 4 am.

“Thank you” said the male voice followed by the door opening all the way and footsteps approaching the bed. “Hello Mark, I’m Dr. Phillips how do you feel this morning? I start to answer but just squeak again “lets try a sip of water nurse” “yes Dr.” someone placed a straw at my lips and I took a small sip, swallowed then took a larger sip. “thank you” I managed. “your welcome” replied the female voice

“Now Mark would you like to try again? How are you feeling this morning”?

My head hurts and I don’t know why I can’t see. I freaked out a bit when I could not move my arms but realized they would be restrained and my left side hurts when I move to much. My voice was odd even after the water but I got thru my list of aches and pains.

The male voice was talking as he felt along different parts of my body. “Well your eyes are taped shut and wrapped due to the scratches but those will hopefully come off tomorrow. The pain on your side is from the case of “Road Rash” you have. Do you have any memories of the accident?”

Accident what accident? Why the hell was he talking about “road rash.” scratches on my eyes.

“Mark, Do you remember the accident?” “Why did you expect to be restrained.”

“I just thought they always restrained you in a prison hospital” I replied softly and the female voice made a sound like a sudden intake of air then cut off.

“Mark” why would you think you are in a prison hospital?” The male voice asked softly

“She was dead wasn’t she?” “I killed her”. “I don’t remember doing it but she was just laying there in the morning.”

“Mark no one has said anything about a girl dead or other wise but we don’t send 11 year old’s to prison”.

“You are in the Stanford Medical Center Hospital, you were in a bicycle accident and have been in a coma for the past week.”

11 years old – “NO NO NO I cant do this again please God NO not again” I began thrashing my legs and trying to pull my arms out of there sockets. I was in a complete emotional break down and my body flooded with hormones and then just crashed – the darkness returned

“Mark, are you going to come back to us now? I need you to promise me not to get agitated.”

The female voice seemed far away to start but got stronger at the end. I could see light but my eyes were still closed and I could tell they were taped shut.

“What Happened”? I asked not knowing if I wanted to really wanted to know or not. You passed out and the Doctor ordered sedation till this morning. There is someone that wants to talk to you when your awake if you feel up to it?

“The police?” I ask softly

“Mark! you did not kill anyone.” “You are not in a prison hospital.” Dr Phillips called the local hospital and then the Sheriffs office. There is no dead girl and nobody thinks you killed anyone.
