Chapter 1: The Hike

Mat finished his homework, closed his laptop and checked the weather forecast for the weekend on his phone. He and his girlfriend Erika had been hoping to hike over the mountain to a little village on the other side. There had been quite a lot of October storms, not good weather to be in the mountains and annoyingly, they always seemed to arrive at the weekend. At last, the final weekend of the month was looking good. Mat was just 18, in his last year of school before going off to uni. Their parents were both expats, his English, hers Swedish who had settled in a small town in the centre of Mallorca in the foothills of the Tramontana mountains. The forecast for Saturday was looking good. Still, Friday and Sunday looked settled too, in case the weather was earlier or later than forecast, so it looked like too good a chance to miss. He phoned Erika with the good news.

“Hi Erika! Saturday is looking good for a hike. What do you think?”

“Shit! Dad just told me they are going into town with your parents in the afternoon. I have to babysit Anna” she replied. Her younger sister was 14.

“Perhaps we should never have introduced our parents” laughed Mat “They haven’t mentioned it yet, but I expect I will have to keep an eye on Dylan.” His younger brother was almost 16.

“Anna thinks hiking is boring, but I might be able to persuade her if you bring Dylan along. I think she rather likes him, although she will never admit it.”

“Well Dylan always calls her your sexy little sister so he might be persuaded. I just had a thought that if we could get them together, it could make life much easier, especially when we have to babysit”

After confirming their parents plan for Saturday, Mat went to his brother’s room and shouted “Can I come in?”

“Yup. Finished homework and just texting Sofia.” Dylan replied.

“Is she the new girlfriend then” asked Mat, wondering if his plan was blown already.

“No, been there, she’s lovely and oozes sex, but we just work better as friends.”

“OK. Erika and I have a problem on Saturday. Mom and Dad are going to Palma on Saturday afternoon with Erika’s parents. We were planning a hike over the mountains, probably the last chance we will get for a while, but Erika has to babysit Anna and I have to keep an eye on you” explained Mat “We were hoping you and Anna would come with us.”

“I’ve nothing planned and I’m up for some fresh air. And I’d love to spend some time with Erika’s sexy little sister.”

A while later Anna was lying in bed, excited that she would be spending time with Dylan. When they arrived at school, they got out of the car and thanked Sven and Birgit for the lift.
