Chapter 4
My thanks to the folks who assist in my passing along silly bits of information. I’m certain that sooner or later, we will find a new topic! - OGD
From: doncdonc
The Navy term going to the “head” came from the days of sailing ships when you couldn’t poop over the sides as the beam was wider than the gunnels so you would poop on the side of the ship which was a no-no. You couldn’t go to the back of the ship as under the rear deck was the captains cabin and you’d be pooping this time in from of his cabin again a no-no. So they would pee in a bucket but to poop they would go to the maidenhead of the ship and cling over the front from the maidenhead to take a poop hence came the term going to the head short for the maindenhead,
Other shitty subject is where the Brits call going to the Loo comes from the first publicly displayed and useable toilets by T. John Crapper were installed at Waterloo Station so people went to see them and hence calling it going to the Loo. Also the term taking a crap and going to the John come from Crappers name. Now if he had gone by his first tame of Thomas instead of the middle name of John, they we would be going to the “Tom” instead of going to the “John.”
