Prelude

“Guess what came in the mail today,” my wife of 23 years asked as I came into our kitchen from the garage.

“Hi babe,” I said, walking up to her, giving her the usual kiss hello, stashing my briefcase in the mud room off the garage. Sally was smirking as she held an invitation in her hand.

“What’s that?” I asked, pulling out the freezer door in anticipation of how good the martini was going to taste. Then as I prepared it she began...

“We’ve been invited to attend a costume party at the Hansen’s Saturday night. It’s for after dinner, when all the little tricker-treaters have gone home to stuff themselves on their loot. The invitation says it’s for coffee, dessert ... and games, according to this,” she said, reading from the invitation.

“At Bill and Deb’s, huh,” I said. “Deb’s hot!” I grinned, taking the first sip of my frozen Hendrick’s martini.

“Pig,” Sally snorted. “You just like those store bought tits of hers,” my wife teased.

“Guilty of THAT, for sure!” I replied.

“Can’t say I blame you, baby,” Sal said, “especially the way she struts around showing them off. And I HAVE heard some interesting rumors about that woman ... AND her husband!”

“Deb and Bill? Like what?” I asked, curious.

“Well ... I heard they’re swingers now,” Sal said. I suddenly recalled how friendly Debbie Hansen had been to me when we’d last seen them.
