Chapter 1

We are in a land forgotten by change; ... a land of tribal ways ... within forest, hills, rivers and caves; where a struggle to survive and reach ones destiny, still prevales.

Junguy, who’s rightful place as a young prince-of -realm, was stolen by a Werwolf’s magic. He and his parents were forced to flee for their lives from their kingdon, finding refuge in a distant Village run by a superstitious circle of Elders.

But being offered refuge had not come free; an obligation was put upon them. They settled into the village with Junguy age nineteen and his father age fifty; given work and duty responsibilities. Mother kept house and also joined the wonenfolk for laundry and water drawing from the well.

But within a year Junguy’s father had been mysteriously killed!

A while after the death of his father, another event befell Junguy, that was to mark the beginning of his manhood and eventual destiny. And that day had now come... “Today is the day” Junguy thought, as he stood and streched his powerful muscular body after a night of fitful sleep. Although early, the sky was cloudless and bright blue.

He dressed purposely; time was something he didn’t have today nor any other day for that matter. Then taking a few moments to bask in the warm rays of the sun as they shone through his open window, he looked around; he took note of all the things that were still left undone. The door that hung slightly crooked. Why hadn’t he taken the time to fix that? The pot rack that shouhave been hanging from the high ceiling was now half hazardly leaning against the far wall. It wouldn’t have taken him little time to fix, why was he just thinking of it now? Would this be the last time he was here?

His simple breakfast had been laid out upon the table by his mother, But he had no appetite. Back in his room he reflected on his life and felt a pain of guilt for not spending it with his mother who he felt unable to face.

But he had to begin his quest; because the fate of the entire village depended on it. The Elders had declared a curse had been placed on the village; crops were failing and the womenfolk were not bearing any young. The village had not attracted any strong men who deemed the village worthy of settling. The curse-maker had to be hunted and slain.

When Junguy’s name had been called out at the big meeting by the Clan Elders, his mother had screamed out the pain she had felt! She cried and yelled in dispair that her only son had been chosen, and clutching her clothes to her body as she was carried away by villagers to a place of comfort; away from the annoyed Elders.

It would have been Junguy’s father chosen; being the man of the house; but since his father was killed by raiders, or thieves or monsters; even with magic! Whoever was recounting his father’s death, they had a different explaination! Either they had no idea what they were talking about or they didn’t want him to know the truth?

Yet it would have to be Junguy to honour the obligation. Junguy took it in his stride; he didn’t have much here; but there was his mother, and there was also a lassy he was fond of. But the sadness he felt was for his mother rather than himself. She already had her husband taken from her and now her only son as well.
