Chapter 2
The blue work van was now parked at the Church on Seagate across from Fletcher High School. The man sat with his windows open, radio tuned to a soft jazz station and playing at a low volume. It was a nice day; cloudless with no rain and still only in the mid-80’s. He appeared, to anyone watching, to be enjoying a break. Off in the distance the man heard a bell ring. That would be the end of 5th period at the school. Turning off the radio, he now waited. On previous visits to Jupiter, he had seen this group of young girls walk home after 5th period several days in a row now.
A few minutes later, the four girls came waltzing out of the high school and headed East down Seagate Avenue, crossing the canal. He stayed where he was until they were just about halfway to 4th street. Then, starting his van, he pulled on to Seagate heading East. Just as the foursome approached the corner he slowed and called out to them.
“Excuse me?”
The girls all quieted. Their leader, a tall brunette, asked, “Yes?”
“I’ve coming over from the West side of town and don’t really know this area very well. Can you tell me where a Mrs. Wrigley lives? Supposed to be on Oleander Street, between 3rd and 4th and near the High School. I’d rather not waste my time driving in circles.”
The girl said, “Sure. Turn left here. This is 4th, but the sign was knocked down by a drunk a couple weeks ago. Continue North for four blocks and that’ll be Oleander. Nikki? You know a Wrigley? She lives on Oleander?”
The short blond hanging at the back of the group quietly spoke up, “yeah, I know where she is. Turn right on Oleander and it’s the fourth house on the left.”
“Great, thanks. Mrs. Wrigley needs some electrical work done. Well, have to go, thanks again.”
“Bye mister, keep cool!”
Honking twice quickly, as he pulled away, he stuck his arm out the driver’s window and waved.
