Chapter 2: The Modern-Day Emperor
Soyaa District Police Station, Republic of Khanda
Year 2021
Detective Lieutenant Sophia Venda stared across the interrogation table at a man who shouldn’t exist. John Sen Di sat before her, his face eerily youthful for someone claiming to be over 75 years old. Blood stained his shirt, but his demeanor was calm, almost smug.
“You’re claiming to be the half-brother of King Sen Di Khanda from 1992,” Sophia said, her voice laced with skepticism. “And you expect me to believe you haven’t aged since then?”
John smirked. “Time is relative, Detective. Especially when you hold the key to controlling it.”
Sophia’s partner, Detective Mark, read out his details. “John Sen Di. Born March 12, 1945. Reported dead in 1992 during the coup in the Imperial Kingdom of Khanda.” He paused, narrowing his eyes. “If you’re really him, how are you here, looking like you’re 40?”
John leaned forward. “Because I crossed the threshold between worlds. Something your finite mind cannot comprehend.”
Before Sophia could retort, the station’s power flickered. A low hum filled the air as a strange, metallic object materialized in John’s hands—half of a bamboo flute, carved with ancient inscriptions.
“I have more pressing matters than entertaining your disbelief,” John said, rising. “There’s a kingdom waiting for its true ruler.”
Before they could stop him, the hum intensified. In a flash of light, John vanished, leaving behind only a faint scorch mark on the floor.
