Chapter 7
Santa Jack’s 200th Anniversary.
It was the bicentennial of Santa Jack’s reign as the jolliest man in the world, and the North Pole was buzzing with excitement. The elves had been working overtime to prepare for the grand celebration, and Mrs. Claus had outdone herself with the feast she had prepared for the special occasion.
As the night drew near, the reindeer were harnessed and ready to take flight, their antlers adorned with sparkling lights and garlands. Santa Jack himself looked particularly festive, his red suit gleaming with freshly polished brass buttons and his snow-white beard perfectly coiffed.
But amidst all the joy and merriment, there was one grumpy face among the crowd - that of Jack’s oldest and grouchiest elf, Grumbles. For two hundred years, Grumbles had been serving under Santa Jack, and he had seen it all. He had grown tired of the same old routine every Christmas Eve and longed for something more exciting.
“Oho! Another year, another sleigh ride,” Grumbles muttered to himself as he adjusted his glasses. “I’m getting too old for this nonsense.”
Just then, a young elf named Jilly approached him, her eyes shining with enthusiasm. “Grumbles, don’t you want to come and see the presents we’ve made for the good boys and girls this year?” she asked.
Grumbles snorted. “Presents? Ha! They’re just the same old toys and gadgets every year. I’ve seen them all before.”
Jilly looked crestfallen, but she didn’t give up. “Well, what if I told you that Santa Jack has a special surprise for you tonight?” she said mischievously.
Grumbles raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? What kind of surprise?”
Jilly leaned in close. “A trip to the human world!” she whispered. “Santa Jack wants you to experience the magic of Christmas through the eyes of the children you’ve brought so much joy to.”
Grumbles’ eyes widened in shock. “The human world? But ... but I can’t leave the North Pole!”
Jilly smiled slyly. “That’s where the magic comes in. You’ll be able to visit the humans without anyone knowing it’s you. And who knows, maybe you’ll even find your own true calling in the human world.”
Grumbles couldn’t resist the temptation any longer. He nodded his head eagerly and followed Jolly to the sleigh, ready to embark on a new adventure. As they took off into the sky, Grumbles felt a sense of wonder he hadn’t experienced in centuries. Maybe this would be the best Christmas yet after all.
It was Christmas Eve, and Santa Jack was getting ready for his annual trip around the world in his sleigh. But this year, he had a special passenger - Grumbles, the grumpiest elf in the North Pole.
Grumbles had always been dissatisfied with life at the North Pole. He hated the cold weather, the endless snow, and the constant singing of Christmas carols. So, when Santa Jack asked him to join him on his journey to the human world, Grumbles jumped at the chance.
As they soared over the rooftops, Grumbles marvelled at the bright lights and bustling streets of the city below. “Wow, this is amazing!” he exclaimed. “I never knew there were so many people in one place!”
Santa Jack chuckled. “There are billions of humans living down there,” he said. “Each one has their own unique story and experiences.”
Grumbles looked out the window as they flew over a park. “Look, Santa! A group of children playing soccer!”
“Ah, yes,” said Santa Jack. “Children bring joy and wonder to the world, don’t they?”
Grumbles scoffed. “Joy? Wonder? Bah humbug!”
Santa Jack laughed. “Well, maybe you’ll find some joy during our visit. Who knows?”
As they landed in the park, Grumbles couldn’t help but feel a twinge of excitement. The children ran up to the sleigh, eyes wide with wonder, and begged for presents. Grumbles watched as Santa Jack handed out gifts, his heart growing slightly softer with each smile he saw.
