Chief Executive’s September Report to the Board of the Gateway House Partnership
Overview
The Greenway House resort has now been reopened to visiting members of La Chatte Heureuse for six weeks. Demand for accommodation has been higher than usual for September, possibly a knock on effect from the two month unscheduled closure in early summer. Membership of La Chatte Heureuse as recovered to former numbers, with many of those who resigned during the closure reapplying for membership. The compensation plan (board minute 7/1A) for the closure has been accepted by nearly all members. Alternative compensation has been negotiated with dissenters.
Maintenance
The arrears in maintenance are being addressed as quickly as possible. The underground electrical fault to the northern block (buildings N1, N2 and N3) has forced the closure of the northern block until repairs can be effected. The need to obtain consent from the lessors is delaying the scheduling of the work (board minute 8/2B). The accommodation in the Tower is being used as an alternative in the meantime, with minimal disruption to normal operations.
As previously reported (board minute 5/3A), Building E4 is overdue for refurbishment. The building is more heavily used than the other east block buildings and the kitchens, bathrooms and dormitories are showing significant signs of wear. With the northern block out of commission, the refurbishment of E4 must wait until demand for accommodation eases over the winter months.
Staffing
Two of the currently approved staff positions are being advertised, and are unfilled at this time. Several of the newer members of staff are still adjusting to their roles and the island lifestyle. Chloe Durand is proving to be an excellent on-site manager, although some members mistake her youth as a sign of weakness. Nicole, Rebecca, and Helen are providing the continuity in leadership from the previous management.
The matter of Gateway House Partnership ownership has been resolved for the time being. As you are aware, ownership of GHP will pass to Melissa in sixteen months time when she reaches her 25th birthday, or upon her marriage, if earlier. Her proposed nuptials to Chloe (board minute 6/2C) have been postponed for the time being as both women agree that neither is ready to take up the ownership mantle. Chloe is gaining more experience in management with Nicole and Helen’s help. Melissa continues in her current role, despite my suggestion for her to elevate her status within the club. I don’t anticipate any change in their plans before the new year.
