Chapter 13: Partner

A couple of minutes before, Franswift and Wilhelm clashed. Avelyn and Bylun stood in front of the House where Franswift currently lived.

Bylun sounded out confused, “Why is the commander training him in a residential area outside instead of using the training facilities in the inner city?”

“You keep asking questions when I told you I don’t know.”

After they knocked on the door, the door opened, and a figure in faint black mist appeared opening the door.

Bylun looked at the figure and stood still in his place, afraid If he made a sudden movement, it would be disrespectful.

“Relax, this isn’t Vali. This is one of the commander servants. You don’t see them very often, though.”

The figure disregarded what Avelyn and Bylun were talking about and said, “The Lord ordered me to lead you in. Please follow me.”

Bylun shoulders relaxed down and followed behind Avelyn to the inside of the house. They went through the hallway and finally reached the changing room before the backyard. After which, the misted figure dissipated.

The first thing that fell into their eyes was Wilhelm knocking the hammer in Franswift’s hand and it going out of the boy’s grasp.

Avelyn watched Franswift retreat while throwing the sword like a dagger and then send the hammer flying with his leg. She contemplated. He is training him in weapon mastery; is he planning to have him be a warrior?

Avelyn and Bylun observed just for a few moments, and they saw a scene where Wilhelm grinned.

After Franswift felt satisfied enough by injuring Wilhelm, he turned around and finally noticed who were the guest.

They were a scarlet haired beauty with a scar under her eye and a well-defined boy with short white hair. He stared at the beauty a bit more since he very rarely saw beauties inside the slums. He gave them both a glance, then turned and faced Wilhelm again. He noticed that the injury that he inflicted with the cut on the clothes have all disappeared.

Franswift suddenly heard a voice very close to him. It was as if the voice originated from inside his ear.

“Don’t panic and don’t show any expression. I want to tell you just don’t reveal you broke your death perception and that I also didn’t show them your last action during the fight.”

Franswift was completely expressionless and showed as if he had really heard nothing.

Wilhelm walked to the room and said, “Thank you for coming, Bylun. This is Franswift; you will be sparring with him from now. I know your concerns, do not worry; you will also learn from him as much as he learns from you. First, I want you to spar and familiarize with each other, and then we will do the introduction later.”

Bylun bowed his head and answered, “You don’t have to mention it, commander, as long as you order it, I will do it.”

“Alright, both of you go to the backyard. Franswift, you take your healing vials to the backyard first, then spar with Bylun.”

Franswift did not answer and just took his vials while Bylun nodded respectfully.

Watching Franswift apply the vials and Bylun warming up, silence dawned between Avelyn and Wilhelm. Used to such silence, Avelyn was the first to speak. “So this is the boy you have been training, I don’t see anything appealing other than his weapon mastery, unless...”

Avelyn turned to face Wilhelm while narrowing her eyes. “Unless it has something to do with the last action that he took that you hid under your domain.”

Wilhelm didn’t face Avelyn and just kept staring at the backyard and said, “It has, but there are also other things that I find appealing.”

Avelyn could hear the enthusiasm in his voice when he started talking.

“His extreme skill to control visible emotions, he is able to enhance his learning and perceiving abilities, but most important of all...”

Wilhelm said, “He was able to break his death perception.”

“That boy actually broke a limitation...” True to his word, the last sentence made Avelyn intrigued. It was a state that only masters were able to breakthrough.

Emotions have different breaking points in the mind, and when someone overdoses or indulges in a single emotion, they reach that some type of a limitation for the emotion. If he breaks it, he becomes completely freed from that emotion, having complete control over it. If not, then that emotion would destroy his mind.

There are many limitations that a human can experience. Pleasure point, where the result is whether you become unfettered, with all of your desires under control or you become lost in an endless sea of debauchery and corruption while your mind dissipates.

Bottom of despair, where you either become suicidal and die immediately if you fail to breakthrough or attain unshakable will. There is the never-ending weariness. There is the bottomless confusion point, the ever-rising pride, and many other limitations.

One of the known hardest limitations and also the most variable is death perception. Not only because it is hard to procure an environment to break it, but because the result for those who fail it is always the same – falling into complete madness. Yet for those who break through it, it varies, and to find the conditions to overdose and indulge in death is extremely hard and even more so as you become stronger.

It finally dawned to Avelyn why Wilhelm trained Franswift personally. He is preparing him to be on equal footing as them. Those who did not need the informal ways to be able to enter the path school of ghost city and did not need to take any sort of external training in the next three years period.

“No, he is already on equal footing if we are talking about talent.”

Stunned, Avelyn looked at Wilhelm, who seemed to have read her thoughts and as if knowing what she thought next. “If we treat him like them, he would undoubtedly stand on the same footing. But I have decided to raise him to be a complete and utter monster, one if given a chance to grow will overshadow them.” Wilhelm laughed. “Although this is what I say, it is all nothing but hope. But at least the possibility is there.”
