Chapter 13: Breakfast
After consulting with William, Huw decided that the most convenient place to eat was the operations building, so the buggy was in use again.
They were surprised when a Regimental Sergeant Major offered to take their order. Huw asked, “What is for breakfast?” and was amazed to be told, “Anything you want. The Royal Catering Corps rarely feeds anyone important and our Colonel says you are probably the two most important people on Earth today. It did not damage his view of things that his nemesis Brigadier Martin got it where it hurts.”
Huw said, “We don’t matter, we are only cogs in the machine. But if we could really have anything, I am very fond of Eggs Benedict.”
“Certainly sir, and for madam?”
“Oh, just a pair of fried eggs and some bacon, and toast. Please.”
“One full Welsh breakfast coming up, Ma’am.”
Huw’s Eggs Benedict duly arrive, prepared to perfection, with the whites of the poached eggs solid, but the yolks cooked but still runny. He thought, Why can’t I ever do that when I am poaching eggs? but just shrugged and tucked in. Seconds later Bronwen was confronted by a large plate with every imaginable element of a ‘Full Welsh Breakfast’ and as she started to tackle this feast she realised that she was, in fact, very hungry.
