I actually love living out in the country. At first, I didn’t think I would. I certainly didn’t move out here with my Uncle Dan by choice.

About four months ago, I was still living with my mom and stepdad in a fairly large city. One night, when my mom was working late, my stepdad and I got into a discussion about whether younger or older men make better lovers. I was surprised and extremely flattered that my uncle would want to photograph me. “Thanks, Uncle Dan. I would love that!”

My uncle pulled me down from the porch swing and led me back inside the house.

“Let’s see here,” he thought aloud. “Why don’t you come over here and sit on this chair?” He pulled one of his wood dining room chairs out into the middle of the room. I followed his direction and sat down.

“Should I change clothes, Uncle Dan? I wasn’t planning on having my picture taken today.” I was wearing a small white t-shirt and a very short pair of denim shorts. “Are you kidding?! You look amazing! I can’t wait to photograph you!” My uncle’s enthusiasm was contagious, and I found myself genuinely looking forward to this impromptu photo session.

“OK, spread your legs apart a little and lean forward, elbows on your knees, hands under your chin. Yes, that’s it. Nice. Hold it there.” For the next 10 minutes or so, my uncle proceeded to direct me to hold a variety of provocative poses. He finally lowered his camera and looked at me, turning his head slightly to one side.

“You know, Tara, I can already see your nipples poking out anyway. Why don’t you go ahead and lose the t-shirt?” I figured that my uncle knew what he was doing, so I removed my shirt.
