Preface

Note to the reader: This is a prequel to my stories THE GREAT EVICTION EVENT UNFOLDS, and its predecessor, THE GREAT EVICTION EVENT.

When I posted Part 1 of TGEEU on 09-11-19, I had not yet worked out the genesis of the underlying “Event” in either version of the story. I stopped work until I could come up with a believable explanation for the fractured reality suffered by Rebecca in TGEE, and then Hannah, Rachael, Charlotte and Jesse in TGEEU. My wife offered a solution.

Marcia posted her story BOOTSTRAPPED in 2003. This was Marcia’s adaptation of BY HIS BOOTSTRAPS, by Anson Macdonald, a short story first published in 1934. Marcia’s story chronicles the adventures of college student Kellie (originally a male, but a female in Marcia’s version) thrown years into the future and forced to thwart an egomaniacal ruler named Leda.

Marcia suggested that a slight variation of her narrative could generate the underlying event in TGEE and TGEEU. I substituted 16-year-old Rebecca Bows for the character Kellie, and rewrote the story from there. (With my wife’s permission, or course.) I named the resulting story FRACTURED REALITY.

Note that FRACTURED REALITY supports only the characters Rebecca and Jesse. Therefore, I am abandoning TGEEU. Rebecca and Jesse’s story will be continued in A GREATER DYNAMIC, which I hope to have completed by the end of summer. It will be an enhanced version of Rebecca’s original story, THE GREAT EVICTION EVENT.

I meant to post both stories as a complete novel, but I am posting FRACTURED REALITY now, because who knows what will happen with the corona virus going around. FRACTURED REALITY is pretty much a stand alone story anyway, and I want it out there in case I am not around to finish A GREATER DYNAMIC. I am 70, after all, in the most at-risk group of potential victims. I hope you enjoy the story.
