Horror Story: I strongly warn against reading this one, it is certain to trigger every one. Don't blame me if you do, and find a scar on your psyche later. You were warned. Warning: May cause intense emotions. Very dark dystopia, but we've been there before.

I had a live one, but it still wasn’t too late, as a DNA snooper in a public toilet had detected a defective pregnancy the Mother had feloniously not reported. Health screenings are mandatory and are built into the pregnancy kit but a clever girl can disconnect the auto-tattle feature and use stored frozen urine on a fresh preg stick reporting the first one as dropped in the toilet that had said the fetus was prone to hypertension or diabetes or even had Down’s syndrome or Celiac’s.

It happens all the time, can’t blame Mothers for wanting babies but that is why we have Health and Human resources and the PopCops, to keep sub-standard humans from burdening the system. I sympathize with how they cry and mourn, you should mourn for the failed possibilities but the Greater Good and anyway, just how happy could defectives be in today’s world? They would feel as awkward and obvious as a zebra at the Kentucky Derby. It isn’t fair to them to inflict such a life upon them and besides we need to conserve resources.

I immobilized my target and verified with a quick scan, yep, she was about four months along with a defective, naughty naughty. I tagged her for later pick-up and sterilization (if they’ll do it once... ) and injected the abortifacient and then had to deal with the emotions.

Sometimes they attack you, and you have to immobilize them again to keep them from causing anyone (themselves) any harm, but most just sob like their world is ending. But really, the Gene Pool has been getting pretty dirty lately, all kinds of genetic disease and contamination. There are enough examples of healthy humanity breeding that we don’t need to bring sub-standard instances of humans into being, do we? Hard enough to provide for all the healthy samples that are around. Once the last of the Baby Boomers age off, it will be a pretty stable system. The savings to the Health System are projected to be in the hundreds of trillions over fifty years, surely that is worth a few tears?

Besides, they were getting health services for free. Every one pretty much had the same basic standard of living, and no one was poor. Poorer than any one else.
