This was a writing prompt from reddit and I decided to dash off a quick little flash fiction.
It is common knowledge not to attack single humans because of the number of beings it has packed bonded with. What no one realizes is that humans that seem to be truly alone have packed bonded to the void itself.
You are one of the rare few that witnessed a human that seemed to have never pack bonded with anything call apon the void for help. What is the event that you witnessed of the void whisperer?
The lone human was spotted walking down the alleys of the city very quickly. It’s gait was slow and dragging, unlike most of it’s species way of moving. Maybe this one was injured or hurt in some way, was the thought of the scavengers hiding in the nooks and crannies of the alleys.
As the human kept slowly wandering along, more and more figures started to gather for some fun and a bit of violence. It might even have some money for them to get a drink later on as well.
A signal was given and a couple large figures rose up and stepped into the human’s path. It stopped, looked up at the hulking figures in it’s path and then turned around to see the rest of the small mob that had gathered in it’s trail.
A voice echoed from the hood of the human: “You don’t want to do this. Just go away and nothing will happen. It will just be a normal day and you will not regret it.”
Upon hearing this most of the group surrounding the human laughed or cackled or just huffed in laughter. The leader stepped closer and said “Oh no, we will not be going anywhere. We are going to have some fun and you are not going to like it. But we will, oh yes, we will definitely have fun.”
At this the human finally looked around, moved their hood down and stood up straight, adding at least a foot to their height. She, it was a female they could finally see, just looked at all the crowd of thugs and petty criminals along with the others who joined in for the fun, and sighed. “I tried to warn you but you wouldn’t listen would you.” She seemed to be speaking to herself as much as the crowd who started to feel a stir of unease run through some of them.
As the leader pulled out a rusty shank and others produced makeshift weapons, she seemed to have a look of regret pass over her face as her eyes changed color from a dull grey to solid black.
“You are threatening my friend are you not little creatures. I do not like that you are threatening my friend at all. She has been hurt by so many in her short life and even now her own mind is hurting her but I can be her friend in the dark times while she searches for the light. And you will not hurt her at all while I am here.”
A darkness started to flow from where her feet were and the shadows of the alley quickly joined the darkness. As the darkness grew it started to envelop the members of the mob and no one could move. There was no sound at all when the various figures vanished into the darkness. That was what was so terrifying to the remaining members as they watched the darkness grew bigger and take more.
