He had heard tales of the days-long torture that the queen had inflicted on her older breeders. No, he thought, there was not as much honor for him as he had no family to pass things to.
He shook his head again, for the good of the queen’s empire and that of her people, he had to act. A small smile came to his features as he thought it was very good for him also.
He entered a lively engineering space as he moved to the now main engineer. The Cregon male looked up, trembling a bit, “We need to find an answer quickly. The queen is starting to grow more than impatient,” the queen’s first said.
The main engineer nodded as he had all there redoubled their efforts.
The ship with the injured youth had already reached the Imperial planet. He was in the imperial hospital ward with two visitors.
Fravick and Grather were staring at the injured unconscious youth. “Do you think that it’s him?” Fravick asked.
Grather shook his head as he stared harder. “I’m not sure, he has to wake up and that’s dangerous at the moment.”
“Yeah, I agree, especially with the readings he has,” Fravick said.
“I hope so, we are short on time, even after what the fleet did. It seems that we might only have a week at the most,” Grather said.
They were surprised when Dedrrikck walked in. “Sire,” they both said with a bow.
“I take it there is no change? He asked. He sighed when they both shook their heads.
“His condition has improved but at the moment the malnutrition has his system, weakened. I am hoping he awakes tomorrow,” Mary said.
Derrick nodded to her and the two males then left the room. He entered a room two doors down with two youths, a brother and sister.
They were both from Cytro, and they had helped Derrick get the ball rolling on their planet. He remembered that Mary had detected two primes on the planet.
She had also said that the readings had been strange indeed. Could both these siblings be primes? Damn that could help.
“Hey! What in the hell is this machine doing to my brother!? You and that strange woman said, You wouldn’t hurt him, he’s in a lot of pain, stop this!” Stell was shouting.
Derrick looked at the reading as he nodded when the male awoke and the bio-bed released him. “There you go, but you might want to take it easy as your legs are weak.”
Both youths stared at him as if he’d lost his mind. “What the hell are you talking about? Jim hasn’t walked in almost all his life!” Stell yelled.
Derrick smiled as he pointed to several readings. “With a little work, he will now.”
“You’re really a sick bastard of a person,” Stell said with an angry look at Derrick.
Derrick’s mouth dropped open as he’d never been called this for a long time. “I am not lying, our medical facilities are far more advanced and can do this.”
Stell crossed her arms on her chest and replied, “Yeah, right. You’re an alien, I suspect you just want to harvest his organs, it’s not going to happen.”
The look of disgust that crossed Derrick’s face shocked Stell.
He looked at Jim and asked, “May I help you to stand? This isn’t a prank or joke, OK?”
Jim looked at his sister and said, “If it’s true, I want to try, please, Stell. I can’t even remember being able to stand.”
Stell threw a murderous look at Derrick, then nodded to her brother. “Alright, go slow, as I said, Your legs are weak, OK?” Derrick asked, to which Jim nodded.
Derrick helped his legs to the floor, then helped him to stand. Both siblings were shocked when Jim actually stood on his legs.
It was only like a minute and a half but it had happened. After Jim was back in bed, Stell kissed Jim and then Derrick, who blinked in surprise.
With tears flowing down her face, she shuddered, “I, I never thought I’d see him stand again, even as short as this. If you can truly help him, then I will do all I can to aid you.”
Derrick looked at Jim, who had a tired look of amazement on his face, then toward Stell, who had a huge smile mixed with her tears.
“I don’t want anything nefarious, but your brother is sensitive to the ships. Just like the one that the both of you arrived on,” Derrick said. “That’s why,” he started, then was interrupted by Stell.
“Is,” she started with a look of fear on her face, “the strange voices I am hearing? I was afraid I was going crazy.”
Derrick’s eyes went wide, then he slowly nodded. “I hear them all, you’re lucky you only hear one,” with that he sighed as more than twenty holographs appeared. “I am not regretting it before you all start, it is just hard when all of you talk at the same time.”
Derrick looked at Stell and Jim started to giggle at his predicament. “I see that things aren’t as easy as the legends say,” Stell said.
Their giggling stopped suddenly when they were both staring at the Empress. They then turned toward ship Shelby completely agog.
“Was she modeled after you? You both are incredibly beautiful,” Jim said, which caused both to blush almost exactly the same.
They both also shook their heads at the same time, making the siblings giggle anew. “I am an extremely complex set of algorithms of the first Emperor’s daughter. So complex that I am basically her,” Shelby said.
When the siblings turned toward the Empress, she stated, “I am a somewhat clone. There was no template for me, so I was fashioned after what she appears to be. Before you ask, I also have the exact same algorithmic memories. You might say that we are exactly the same to a point, though a few things are different.”
“Different?” Stell asked. “You appear to be the same, so how different?”
The Empress sighed as she thought for a moment. “I was basically created for him,” she said, pointing at Derrick, “Though I am a person. Not long after I was created, I actually shifted. I am, in effect, human.”
Both siblings could only stare their opened mouths at the both of them. All the holograms smiled or giggled at the siblings.
Derrick looked at Jim and asked, “So we now know that your sister can hear them, can you? Mary indicated that you can, have you?”
Jim stared at his sister, Derrick, and the Empress. “I’m not sure, I did a few months ago, but I grew so weak trying to make sure the others ate. I felt that I was a failure and didn’t really have a reason to exist. I started giving all my food to them.”
Stell’s face twisted into a mask of horror, “I wondered why you were always done so fast! Had I known I would have given you most of my food, oh my god!” Stell said as she crushed Jim’s head to her chest. Her substantial chest smothering him, causing him to gasp and tap at her shoulder as he couldn’t draw a breath.
With a large gasping draw of air, he stared at Stell, “Geez, Stell gonna die from lack of air!”
That caused Derrick to smile as he patted Jim on the shoulder, “Mary has you on a steady flow of nutrients. You’ll gain weight rapidly, now. Which of you are talking to them?”
A young teen female came to the front and said, “I was talking to her.”
“YOU!” Stell shouted at the hologram, “you know how hard it is to sleep when you’re whispering in my head? I could hardly sleep for a week. I thought I was going crazy.”
“I’m, I’m so sorry, prime. I was so excited that I could hear you. I forgot that humanoids need rest far more than we do,” the teen said.
Shelby stepped forward, “introduce yourself, we’re not rude like that.”
The teen stared at Shelby with her mouth open, “I’m sorry I am Frela. You will be only my second prime. I was lost with several at the battle of the Gregson expanse.” Here the teen’s head hung almost in disgrace. “I and the others felt that we failed so disgracefully.”
Shelby patted the teen on the shoulder. “It was one of the first battles, it helped that we didn’t lose another for almost a hundred years?”
The teen’s eyes shone brightly at the news of this. “A century? Are you sure that it helped that much? I felt as if it was for nothing.”
Shelby shook her head, “Every battle was a new experience that aided future battles. I was as proud of you as I was of the others.”
Frela smiled as she nodded her head. “Thank you mother, it helps so much hearing that from you.”
Shelby turned toward Derrick and nodded her head. He then turned toward Jim, “Do you remember the one you heard mentioning a name?”
Jim thought a moment, then shook his head no, a look of disappointment on his face. He then turned toward the holograms as he waited.
A few moments later, a male teen managed to make his way to the front. “Sire,” he said as he bowed. “I heard the prime many of your months ago. I was afraid that he had passed when I lost contact with him.” He turned toward Jim as he slightly bowed, “I see that I was incorrect in my data at your passing.”
Jim turned to Derrick and whispered and asked, “Are they always like that?”
Derrick sighed and nodded, “For the moment, most of them are. I have a program that frees up a good percentage of their emotions. Try and see if you can hear him,” Derrick stopped as Jim’s eyes were wide. Ah, good, he thought apparently they were talking again.
Jim was nodding with his eyes still wide as he agreed with what he heard. “So,” Jim said as he looked at his sister. “I wish to introduce you to my ship, Jake.”
His sister nodded as she slightly bowed to the male A.I. “Pleased to meet you, I assume that you know mine, Frela?”
Both A.I. holograms nodded to each other. Fravick and Grather were sitting nearby and shook their heads as they realized that the male wasn’t their brother.
“Sire,” Fravick started, “I am afraid that he isn’t the third that we need.” He then turned to Mary, “Mother, are you sure that there isn’t,” he stopped as he noticed that another male hologram was staring at the ceiling.
Mary and Grather also noticed as Shelby moved towards him. “You can hear him? Is he on the same planet?”
The male hologram nodded as his eyes got large. “Yes mother,” he said to Shelby though concentrating on a spot on the ceiling. “I can see that he is scared and highly confused.”
Derrick looked at Mary, “the readings you took, you indicated that you saw two. You also said that the readings were by far stranger than ever before. I have a conjecture,” Derrick said.
“I am prepared to extrapolate,” Mary stated.
“When you detected the readings for the primes. Is it possible that the siblings have identical energy readings in comparison to other primes?” Derrick asked.
“Now comparring all previous readings that were observed at first contact. As of yet, I am not seeing any, Sire, It appears that I did not scan as far as you wish at the present time. Yes, I am detecting another on the planet of Cytro,” Mary said.
Derrick nodded as he thought, “connect me to Admiral Hartwell,” then he waited.
“Yes sire, we are almost finished here,” Hartwell said.
Derrick nodded as he read the data, “I’m afraid that you aren’t after all.” Hartwell’s eyes grew wide as interest flared in them.
“Oh? What did I forget, Sire?” Hartwell asked.
Derrick sighed, “Wasn’t you this time I’m afraid.”
