Since a winning ticket had been sold the next jackpot drawing started at Ten million.
By the end of the second week and four drawings the jackpot was $60 million. Wendy took the payout... $30 million.
“Why?” asked the reporter.
“Why did it take so long?” asked Wendy.
“Uh huh.”
“I never buy a ticket so I never look,” said Wendy.
“Why this time?”
“Mind worm ... usually it’s music ... this time it was numbers and they wouldn’t go away.”
“You won the first time you played?”
“Yeah ... sick, huh?” she said. “Actually, my husband found the ticket.”
“Your husband gets in your purse?”
“Not exactly,” here she blushed, “I threw it in the trash because the strap broke.”
The reporter looked at me.
“Yeppers,” I said. “She threw 30 million dollars in the trash.”
“It wasn’t like that, and you know it,” she glared. “I didn’t KNOW I won.”
