Roberta vs Chrissie
“She will be remembered,” we all said.
Not a lot, to be honest. By me, a little bit. None of the other combatants knew anything at all of Jhoselin on Earth. As to Jane, her problem is that she faces Gillian in round two in a few months time.
The next two are out now. Roberta is number 32 seed and as such would face Gillian in round three if she gets that far. In 1990, she was a first year student at the Sheridan College of Performing Arts, specializing in the violin. Furthermore, she was and remained slim with neat B-cups and just-so curves and a nice face with freckles and a mane of brown hair. She soon became good friends with another first year student named Diane (#2 seed) whom he who was to become Emperor here on New Eden was dating at the time. I wondered why – life being a bitch that needs rectifying – fate couldn’t have rendered me compatible with Roberta instead. Maybe we just want what we can’t have.
Within seconds of her company, one knew that the doors were nailed shut on any concept of sex before marriage, casual sex or open relationships; you have to be the one who marries her. Her problem and quality rolled into one was that she was a born-again Christian. The kindest and gentlest of personalities, she used to do charity work with the homeless. She would lament to us when down-and-out guys kept hitting upon her; well, what did she expect? Part of the reason – a big part – for the decay of my Earthly marriage was that Diane had ‘vaginismus’. Can’t fuck, at least not without targeted sex therapy. Whilst trying to address this in our thirties, she divulged to me that her good friend Roberta (by then with husband 10 years her elder) had also been taught by married life that she had the condition.
‘Jesus’ is all I could think to this. It made me a bit less envious of said husband (talk about out of the frying pan into the fire; he’d been victim in a previous abusive marriage). The lovely Roberta is who concerns us here, however. I am sure a useful role can be found for her on New Eden, if she can win through. I have gifted her with the age of 33 – the age she was when I was first at my age of 35 – and thought it apt to have her lifted out of Easter Day itself, 2003. She had left behind a baby son and I’m sorry about that; but in timeline central of course she has lived out her family life as normal anyway.
Well, she should win this one, as her opponent Chrissie is short on such beauty and impact. It pains me to say that, really it does, as her character is extremely creditable. At 47 years old – the age she was in 2018 on extraction and therefore is right here and now – she had been a member of the local music concert circle that Your Imperial Majesty himself had attended. That was before he had to give it up after being arrested for child sex images. Chrissie was one of the fine few who did not disown him, and moreover troubled to chat when coming across him in cafes not merely ‘forgive’ in a arm’s length way. That, despite her not being hugely fanciable, is why she deserves one of the 128 slots here. Only 2 ratings down, she is not without hope.
Well, well, and we see that straight away. She always did have a straight-forward manner, not sucked in to nonsense or sensationalism around her, and an ability to adapt to circumstances. She had in fact spent many years sleeping in her car after some kind of family breakdown of her own, she told me, so she could identify with me doing the same (albeit for different reasons). When you are in tune without the real outside world in such a way, taking solace from it, it predisposes you to precisely such an opportunity as this, 1,012 light years from Earth. First set, Chrissie, 7 games to 5.
