Chapter 7

This account, along with the rest of these annals, gets locked away in a vault in the temple in Pantheus (the continent of the Gods) in the Imperial City. Only myself and the Sixteen, plus possibly the odd mortal priest on pain of death, gets access to them. They will become the Foundation Myths for the planet New Eden for millions of years.

...

The journey began with the birth of a human male baby on a planet called Earth in a year they knew as 1968. He was born of two good middle class parents in the North of a country known as England, UK. His childhood seemed a happy one, although his parents were ill-matched and squabbled, and he was to be an only child.

Developmental experiences began during preteen years, promisingly at first but with subtle socially maladapted signs manifesting. After relating sweetly with the first female friend of his life at age seven, interactions became more tentative and charged. He was also a somewhat sickly child, afflicted with asthma and allergies.

Gaining entry to one of the land’s most prestiguous secondary schools was both a blessing and a curse. It brought learning and deep thought in the Arts and the Sciences, but the austere academia and boys-only environment brought also estrangement and frustrations in the ways that mattered most. Tentative roots were visciously strangled by the self-doubts and undiagnosed syndromes of adolescence.

He fought bravely for fitness and confidence, becoming a distance runner of some credit, but it brought scant reward in the twin realms of lust and love. To be desired, and not understand that one is desired, is possibly the cruellest cut of all; and lacking for words, whilst having much to say, is certainly the greatest disability of all. To be a male unsexed by the age of 20 years is a beyond-debate poverty.

The boy became a young man became a student of the highest forms of the world’s music. There at college, the burden of virginity was at least laid to rest, but with many angsts ongoing, with the true desirables of the world seeming always out of reach. If only he knew that all that was needed was to talk and to believe. The lesson was grindingly slowly learned, and she who was to be his wife, Diane, was met.

To be wed at 27, after all this, did not seem so bad. Was this an end to loneliness? It seemed so, but seeming was not being. The man had clutched at friendship clutching at love, and both knew no better, she afflicted by the suffocations of religious raising. For all her splendid red hair, the woman’s carnality was stifled, and he believed himself gifted with a sister not a spouse. He strayed, and badly.

His infidelities were rarely with anything beautiful, such is infidelity, and she forgave and for 20 years he stayed. She tried earnestly to address her difficulties of the flesh, whilst he tried to address his decades of discontent. They brought forth a son and a daughter, bringing with it the mirage of permanence and solidity. Sadly, the man felt the gold around him was but a cage which was to be endured or escaped.

He opened Pandora’s Box. Their 21st century world’s version of it. To our eyes this is a crude and simple thing, but to the eyes of he of pre-cosmic age who is trapped and starving it was a novelty of wondrous and toxic power. They called it the internet, technological marvel, a place of corruption and forbidden fruits. The slide had an oft-seen pattern: women, teens, children. Then followed the heavy hand of law.

‘Only’ a community sentence they said, and for sure he was relieved, but that is to deny the real weights of punishment. A very public scandal and fleeing friends A marriage broken once and for all, and in a barbarism staggering to our eyes, access to own beloved lineage denied by those who called themselves ‘social services’. It took the man seven years to regain by luck and tenacity that which had been lost.
