Chapter 2
We spent two more nights at the farm before we left for home. I had finished storing the tools and backhoe that first day. I spent one day trying to learn to ride a horse. The twins could ride so I was the one who was sore the next day. I knew then that I was not cut out to be a rancher. Horses did not seem to like me much more than I liked them. And cattle! Those things scare me. The mommas don’t want you near their young ones even if you are there to help.
The twins felt the same way. They loved to visit but after 3 days we were ready to head back to the city. The trip was uneventful but for the talk. How was telling her mom and dad going to work out? And where were we going to live? And what was I going to do to support us all?
We rolled into town about 4pm. Carla said we should stop by her dad’s office and tell him we were back. I guessed now was as good a time as any. Maybe he would not get so mad if he was at his workplace and there were people around.
We walked in to find Amy, Bobby’s wife at the front desk. She jumps up and hugs the twins. Then she grabs me and hugs me tight.
“I heard the news, Congratulations.”
Then the door to the main office opens and there stands Mr. O’Shea. He is grinning from ear to ear. He grabs me and gives me a big hug before the girls get to him. Then it becomes a big group hug. Not what I expected but I am fine with the way this is going. Any normal father would be mad as hell, but he seems ok with both his girls sleeping with me.
“I knew it right from the beginning. When I saw you drive up in that big truck of yours and the girls run out and hug you, I knew. I told Sharon you would end up with both our girls.”
