Chapter 5: Mutiny and Metamorphosis
My eyelids fluttered shut as my lips parted with a trembling moan. “Ohhhh!” The sound escaped me as Garrett’s powerful frame shifted above my naked body, every movement deliberate and controlled. We lay bare on my bed, skin against skin, his hips rolling in a slow, devastating rhythm that made me ache deep inside.
“Ah! Ah! Ah!” I panted, lids lifting to meet his intense gaze, a smile curling at the corners of my mouth even as I clutched desperately at the corded muscles of his arms. Each measured thrust sent waves of sensation through me, his shaft sliding with slick friction that had us both trembling.
“Yes, Lieutenant ... just like that,” I moaned, back arching as he filled me again. His rhythm remained controlled, each deep thrust wringing a soft cry from my lips. Garrett’s blue eyes blazed down at me, his voice a low growl near my ear. “I never stopped thinking about you, Captain ... not since I saw that magnificent body of yours.” The raw admission sent a shiver through me even as heat pooled low in my belly.
A breathless laugh escaped me as I tightened my legs around his hips, meeting his next thrust with equal hunger. “I thought your eyes lingered too long that day,” I teased, nails digging into the flexing muscles of his back.
He leaned in to kiss me, and I met his kiss with equal fervor. “We’ll be reaching our destination soon,” he murmured against my lips as I drew a shaky breath. “I don’t care,” I exhaled, my words ragged with need. He chuckled low in his chest, the sound vibrating against my sensitive skin.
“Admiral Hawk would be disappointed.” In one fluid motion, we switched places. I straddled Garrett, slowly sinking down onto his thick shaft. “Ahhh!” The sound tore from my throat as he stretched me open. “Fuck the Admiral,” I declared, my voice husky with desire as I began to move. My hips rolled and bucked over him, riding him with increasing urgency.
Leaning forward, I crushed my mouth against his. Hunger consumed me, a ravenous need to devour every inch of my Chief of Security.
I was poised on the edge of ecstasy, my lips parted in wordless cries as I arched backward, still impaled on his shaft. My head tilted toward the ceiling, a cascade of desperate moans tearing from my throat – “Oh! Ohh! Ohhh!”
My eyes flew open as my comm badge blared to life “Bridge to the Captain!”, the harsh sound tearing through our passion. “Urghhhh!” I came hard with a guttural cry, my body clenching just as he roared his release deep inside me.
My head dropped forward, my bare body still draped over Garrett’s, hands splayed on his chest. “Bridge to Captain!” My tactical officer’s voice blared through the room again. I reached over to the bedside table with a groan, fumbling for my comm badge. My breath still came in heavy pants as I pressed it.
“Yes! Ensign!”
I heard a brief hesitation before my tactical officer’s voice returned, laced with concern. “Are you alright, Captain?”
“I’m fine,” I managed, my breathing still uneven as I pushed myself up slightly.
“Report.”
“We’ll reach the Andoria System within the hour, sir,” came the crisp reply.
The honorific made my lips twist in faint annoyance as I rolled off Garrett’s spent body. I’d always found “sir” grating - too male-centric for me.
“Thank you, Ensign!”
I tossed my comm badge back onto the bedside table as I leaned in to give a tender kiss to Garrett. “Lieutenant,” I murmured softly against his lips. His eyes met mine, still glazed with post-coital warmth. “Yes, Captain?”
“This is so improper ... I’m your captain!” A mischievous smirk tugged at my lips.
The stars snapped back into pinpoints as we dropped from warp.
“Andoria System, Captain,” Rejal announced. “We’ve arrived at the coordinates supplied by Admiral Hawk.”
I leaned forward in my chair, studying the viewscreen. A distant planet dominated one edge of the display, its pale crescent illuminated by the system’s star.
“Lieutenant Brennan, inform Admiral Hawk of our arrival,” I commanded. His fingers flew across the console with practiced efficiency. “Aye, Captain.”
Before he could complete the transmission, Ensign Mitchell’s voice cut through the bridge, tight with alarm. “Captain, sensors show a vessel approaching fast!”
My blood ran cold as recent memories flooded back. “The Kaelari?” I demanded sharply.
“Federation vessel, the USS Endeavour,” he clarified as my eyelids fluttered rapidly in stunned reaction. “Captain Shaw?”
The magnificent starship Endeavour slid into our peripheral view on the main screen, making my pulse race. “Captain Shaw is hailing us, Captain,” Mitchell reported crisply. “On screen,” I ordered immediately. The bridge of the Endeavour materialized before us, with Admiral Hawk standing prominently near the front wearing a broad grin. A pair of helmsmen worked consoles before him while Captain Shaw lounged in the command chair behind him with a knowing smirk.
“Delores!”
My breath caught audibly as I stared at the viewscreen. “Regg ... Admiral?” Surprise colored my tone. “You never mentioned you’d be meeting us here.” The Admiral’s expression turned gleaming, almost self-satisfied. “Disappointed?” he inquired, making me quickly shake my head.
“Of course not, sir,” I replied, regaining my composure.
“Come aboard, Delores. We have much to discuss,” the Admiral said with a meaningful look. I nodded once in acknowledgment. “On my way, sir,” I replied, gesturing subtly to Ensign Mitchell to terminate the transmission.
I rose from the command chair, my uniform tunic stretching taut across my shoulders. “Ensign,” I announced, my voice carrying clear across the quiet bridge, “you have the bridge. I’m heading to the Transporter Room.”
As I turned toward the turbolift, Garrett materialized at my side like a silent shadow. My brow furrowed in question as we stepped into the waiting lift. “What are you doing?” I asked, my gaze sweeping over his determined expression.
“Wherever the captain goes,” he stated simply, his deep voice resonating in the confined space, “I follow. I’m coming with you.” The lift doors hissed shut behind us.
As we descended, I fixed him with a stern look. “Listen Lieutenant,” I began firmly, “whatever you do...”
He met my gaze with a playful glint in his blue eyes. “Yes?” he drawled, clearly enjoying my discomfiture.
“Don’t you ever try to pinch my ass when I’m in uniform,” I warned, my tone leaving no room for argument as the lift continued its smooth descent.
“Noted, Captain.”
Garrett and I materialized aboard the USS Endeavour’s transporter pads, where Admiral Hawk awaited us. I approached the admiral and embraced him; the comforting familiarity of his presence brought an unexpected sting of tears to my eyes.
“Sir, this is my Chief of Security, Lieutenant Garrett Stone,” I said, noticing the admiral’s slight hesitation before his expression softened into a smile. “Welcome aboard, Lieutenant,” he greeted warmly. Garrett inclined his head in acknowledgment. “Thank you, Admiral,” he responded.
As I strolled beside Reggie down the wide corridor toward the turbolift, with Garrett trailing a few paces behind us, I glanced over my shoulder at him. “Quite spacious here, isn’t it, Lieutenant?” I remarked with a playful smile. He acknowledged me with a nod and a respectful dip of his chin. “Absolutely, Captain,” came his deep-voiced reply.
Reggie turned to me with a warm smile as we walked. “So how has your journey been so far, Delores, commanding a starship? How’s your crew?” he asked, his tone affectionate. I felt myself relax at the familiar use of his first name—a privilege I allowed only in private moments like this. “It’s growing on me, Reggie,” I admitted, stealing a glance back at Garrett who maintained his respectful distance behind us.
“Why did you bring your Chief of Security with you? Do you not trust me?” he asked as I studied his expression. At first I thought he was merely teasing, but beneath the playful tone I detected a faint note of genuine concern. “Oh, not at all,” I assured him with a light laugh. “In fact, the Lieutenant gave me quite the lecture about never abandoning one’s captain.”
The turbolift doors parted, and I stepped onto the Endeavour’s bridge. My mouth fell open at the sheer scale of it. I’d served on numerous starships, but none compared to this cathedral of technology. The Seeker’s entire bridge could fit inside this space four times over, I realized with a twinge of jealousy.
Across the expansive deck, Captain Shaw rose from his command chair and strode toward us with purposeful strides that seemed to eat up the distance - a crossing that would have taken a mere two steps on my bridge.
“Captain Vance, it’s a pleasure,” Shaw said as I shook his hand. He gestured to his first officer beside him. “This is Commander Brann Vorek, my first officer.” I nodded politely to the Bolian commander. Following Shaw’s example, I introduced my own companion. “And this is Lieutenant Garrett Stone, my Chief of Security,” I added, feeling an unexpected surge of pride as I presented him - almost as though he were serving as my own first officer in that moment.
My gaze wandered across the impressive bridge before returning to Shaw. “Captain,” I ventured playfully, “would you consider trading ships with me?” He responded with a strained smile that barely concealed his irritation. “No,” came his clipped reply, leaving me standing in awkward silence.
Shaw cleared his throat, breaking the tension. “Let’s head to the observation lounge, shall we?” he suggested smoothly. With a sweep of his hand, Reggie gestured toward the portside entrance where the doors parted to reveal yet another vast compartment. We filed through in uneasy silence, the sheer scale of everything on this ship continuing to unnerve me.
As I took my seat, I glanced at Garrett settling beside me. An inexplicable unease prickled through me as I felt the weight of his stare - a focused intensity that suggested concern, though about what specifically I couldn’t discern.
This silent exchange troubled me enough that I knew we’d need to discuss whatever unspoken signals he might be transmitting.
Shaw occupied the head position, his first officer to his right, while Reggie sat to his left beside me and Garrett. “So,” I began, keeping my tone neutral, “what’s my first assignment?”
Captain Shaw’s irritation was palpable. “Captain,” he began, his tone laced with condescension that made my ears perk up. I noticed Reggie’s expression shift - his eyes lowered as my breath caught in my throat. Something felt deeply wrong here.
Shaw leaned forward, his expression hardening. “This was your assignment,” he stated flatly. My brow furrowed in confusion as I processed his words. “I’m sorry?” I managed to utter, my mind reeling from this unexpected revelation. Captain Shaw settled back in his chair with a self-satisfied smirk playing on his lips. My gaze darted to Garrett, searching for some explanation, but he avoided my eyes, slowly shaking his head as if warning me not to press further.
“You’re no longer in command of the Seeker, Delores,” Reggie said as I turned to him. “W ... What!? Why?” I stammered as Shaw interjected, “Did you think you’d stay Captain? Someone in your position?” My breath grew ragged, my lips pressing into a tight line.
Shaking my head, I protested, “I was doing my duty—” but Reggie cut in with a softened tone. “Delores,” he said gently, “I’m sure you commanded well. It’s just ... we can’t allow you to carry on.” As I rose abruptly from my seat, my voice tightened with defiance. “I’m going back to my ship!” Shaw barked before I could finish standing, his command slicing through the air like a blade. “You’re not going anywhere. Sit down.”
My body trembled as I sank into the chair, disappointment and rage warring within me. Lowering my eyes briefly, I gathered myself before turning toward Shaw with defiant resolve. In a calm, measured tone that belied my inner turmoil, I delivered the revelation: “We’ve made contact with the Kaelari.”
Shaw recoiled slightly, his expression shifting from smug satisfaction to stunned confusion.
“Come again?”
“That’s right,” I said, leaning forward to place my palms firmly on the table. “We were swarmed.”
“Those transmissions!” I declared, raising an eyebrow as I shrugged my shoulders. “We’ve cracked em,” I added with deliberate nonchalance.
Captain Shaw let out a strangled laugh, glancing at his first officer who wore an identical smirk. “Let me get back to my ship and I’ll transmit them over,” I offered, but Reggie fixed me with a stern look. “Delores,” he warned, his tone sharpening, “don’t try to be clever here.”
“Don’t you believe me?” I asked, my voice dripping with feigned sincerity. Before Shaw could respond, he tapped his comm badge. “Shaw to bridge,” he ordered sharply, “lock a tractor beam on the USS Seeker.” His gaze locked onto mine as he finished with cold finality, “We’re towing it back to the Starbase.”
“Aye, Captain.”
“Tractor beam is in place, Captain.”
Garrett leaned in, his voice dropping to a rough murmur. “It was a pleasure and an honour serving with you, Captain.” When I met his gaze, the sadness brimming in those blue depths struck me like a physical blow. My own eyes welled up instantly. “Likewise, Lieutenant,” I managed to say around the sudden lump in my throat.
A sharp pain lanced through my skull – and Garrett’s too, judging by his sudden grimace. The observation lounge dissolved around us as the chairs vanished beneath us. I landed hard on my ass with a jarring thud.
Looking to my left, Garrett lay sprawled beside me on the deck. “Captain?” I heard someone call out as I lifted my head. Ensign Rejal and Mitchell stared down at us from their stations, their expressions a mixture of shock and confusion.
I turned to Garrett, my voice tight with shock. “What the hell just happened?”
He stared back at me, looking equally stunned. “I have no idea.”
“Captain, the Endeavour has us locked in a tractor beam,” Ensign Mitchell reported, panic edging his voice. Ensign Varek followed from communications: “Captain Shaw is hailing us, Captain.”
I glanced toward Garrett as I moved to stand center-bridge behind Rejal. “On screen,” I ordered.
The viewscreen flickered to life, revealing both Admiral Hawk and Captain Shaw standing side by side, their expressions taut with barely contained fury. “Delores,” Hawk demanded icily, “what the hell do you think you’re doing?”
I stood frozen, momentarily robbed of speech by the accusation. “This is insubordination, Vance!” Captain Shaw’s voice thundered across my bridge. Around me, the severity of our predicament settled over my crew like a suffocating blanket. They exchanged horrified glances, their faces etched with stunned disbelief as they absorbed the gravity of Shaw’s words.
Reggie’s panicked voice cut through the tension. “Beam her out of there?” But before anyone could respond, Garrett barked the order. “Ensign Mitchell, raise the shields!”
The young officer stared at his console, frozen in disbelief. “That’s an order, Ensign!” Garrett roared, his voice cracking with urgency.
Mitchell flinched, fingers flying across his panel. “Aye, sir! Raising shields!”
I turned to Garrett, breath catching in my throat as my chest rose and fell rapidly. “Can we break off the tractor beam?” Before he could answer, Captain Shaw’s voice cut through the comm again, his tone laced with warning. “Lieutenant Stone,” he snapped through the viewer, eyes narrowing at my Chief of Security. “Don’t make this any worse for yourself.”
The tactical console emitted a series of erratic bleeps, its indicators flashing without human input. Ensign Mitchell stared at his station, bewildered. “What the hell?” he muttered, his fingers hesitating over controls that seemed possessed. “Captain! The console is going berserk!” My brow furrowed as I registered his alarm. “We’re emitting some kind of energy burst,” he added urgently, eyes wide with confusion.
A blinding flash filled the viewscreen. I threw up a hand to shield my eyes, squinting against the sudden glare. Beside me, Ensign Mitchell reported with disbelief, “Captain ... the tractor beam has been severed!”
